Re: hotmail - you can get hotmail POP3 via fastmail (fastmail.fm). It's a bit of a workaround, but better than paying Microsoft a subscription. There may be other server that do the same thing.

I tried using the configurations youve posted, but i'm still not able to send emails via gmail. recieving works great.
Ive installed all the three certificates, but i alway get the message "sending failed". I think the phone is able to connect to the server. seems that its no server problem.
Im using exactly the settings in here. Im Using the Austrian Network 3 (three). 3 operates also in other countries, i think. so does somebody knows how to configure the settings using 3. On the sony ericsson page arent settings for 3 in austria.
kind regards
the black one

ok guys heres the setting im using on my p990 for gmail:
in basic:
Account Name:
username@gmail.com
Your Name: my name
email address: my email address
Connection Type: POP3
Inbox settings:
Incoming Server address: pop.gmail.com
Username:
username@gmail.com
Password: password
Outbox Settings:
Outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com
use smtp auth
Advanced:
Incoming:
secure connection: SSL
Incoming Mail Port: 995
tick Secure Password Authentication
Outgoing:
Secure Connection: SSL
Outgoin Mail Port: 465
untick mime encoding.
Whats wrong with these settings? cos the error i get is "THE SENDING FAILED BECAUSE THE ACCOUNT HAS ERRORS IN ITS SERVER SETTINGS"

The outgoing server on gmail requires authentication on top of ssl. There doesn't seem to be that setting on the k800 nor the k610...probably why sending emails doesnt work.
Anyone can confirm this? I'm no technical guru....

Aha. I guess that includes the k310. Ah well... Is there another server I can use? Because I only want to send emails from my phone, reading them is not important.
