Just spoke to tech support at SE and they could not confirm the existance of another version of the P990 firmware other than that shipped with the phone. He did say that when they develop software that Vodafone mus accept this before it is released. This may be why we can not get hold of the latest version.
The other thing he stated was that there was going to be a new release within the next 2 weeks for Vodafone branded handsets.
We shall see!

It does exist, because SE were updating people with newer Vodafone-branded firmware at the smartphone show in London. See post by Jah earlier in this thread.

...did he say it would be on SEUS so we can update at home?
Because repeated calls to the Vodafone call centre, speaking to technical and various supervisors, have all landed up in a 'our policy is to not use SEUS' response.
If and when they do have new firmware the only way to get it done is to either go to a Vodafone shop which has a service centre, a SonyEricsson service centre (which I assume was at the smartphone show) or give it to any Vodafone store who will send it off for 7 days (without you knowing if you're actually going to get newer firmware or not).
This is why SE developed and support SEUS... Voda decide not to use it. If you don't like that, phone Voda and complain.

Noticed earlier today while at work that the P990 had finally appeared on our repair program. Then contacted the repair center and asked them about the lastest version of the firmware they have. They confirmed:
Phone: CXC162037 R7A001
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R4F01
Organiser: CXC162036 R3B01
CDA: CDA162008/91 R3A01
So, from what I've been told, if you send your P990i's away for repair they'll be upgraded to R3B01
Just thought you guys might want to know. Has anyone done this yet? I'll be sending mine away on monday unless I can get it sorted before then!

Saint i think i may join you on that one!!
my phone was semi-OK when i first got it with a few gripes such as the mic/speaker quality is distorted and thats about it the rest of the connectivity stuff is purrfect but i phone Voda about this they asked me to update via SEUS so stupid me i done it and now the phone is even worse than before! with my phone switching off when i phone Voda and try to key in my pin code i press ALT and 1 and the phone resets NICE eh!
i have now been to a SE service centre in North London and still they can only restore the software via SEUS which i have already done?!
i also went VOda and they asked me to send the phone off for repair then the guy promised me it would be fixed but all they will do is update via SEUS can they do any better??? not by the look of things?
i was told by a repectable guy at SE that they have a new firmware already available for the unbranded version and will be getting cleared by VODa in the next one and ahalf weeks???
i have a feeling this will be an ongoing issue and by the time its all running well they will bring out the P1000
all i can say is if you have the same problem just call VODA and hopefully they will get the message!

That firmware has existed for at least a couple of weeks because Jah got it from SE at the smartphone show.
And Vodafone's technical have confirmed to me on the phone several times now that they DO NOT use SEUS and have no plans to do so.

Reported on My-Symbian that people with the Voda firmware R5 can now use SEUS to update to R7 firmware.
