I'm getting the iPhone but I'm still keeping my phone collection. Plus, if comes up with another phone that I like, I'll buy that too.

Apple made the right decision in releasing the iPhone (whatever final name) in an under developed market, namely the US. Releasing that phone in Europe, or even in the ME would be a disaster for Apple. As the US market is finally catching on to the idea of SMS, and MMS, Apple can do all of its user testing there and then release a better product for a more demanding subscriber base.

As for leaving SE, I am half the way there. After SE stated they have no desire to support the Mac OS X platform, the deal was sealed with me. As much as I hate to admit it, I am very, very happy with my Nokia E61. It is fast, reliable and most of all, supports Mac OS X. SE really shot themselves in the foot over this. Maybe the days of when SE was one paycheck away from bankruptcy will wake them up. Until then I will never buy another Smartphone (so called) from SE.

thats a bit of an old record you're playing there mate, but I do agree with the first part, though I suspect many Esato members will get their hands on the initial US versions as that is the nature of the members here and it will provide some insight and comparison to whatever SE has at that time

trouble is that its so far away time wise that so much can happen between now and then from other manufacturers. I am somewhat reminded of the neonode which would have been a ground breaking device if it had been released on its original schedule. Mind you, I guess Apple have a few more resources to get this done to their schedule than neonode did so I am hopeful that we'll see a good product but its now up to SE and others to respond in some way to the challenges presented

The display looks HUGE & COLOURFUL!!~~~~WAIT! I'm afraid that ppl will send their iphones to service because of breaking their screens constantly, compared to their screen size & the thiness of the phone...

Remember Ipod Nano... the thin music player with constant serviving because of cracked display..

A cousin of mine is in marketing with a firm that did research for market demand for the iPhone plus a few other products. Initial demand looks crushing. Retailers are already queing up to get as many as they can. She says she can't recall such a fever pitch so far ahead of the release date. Initial sales are expected to far exceed the initial rush for the iPod.

Yup. A friend of mine in Nokia product design, and a buddy over at SE say the same. Nokia was caught a bit flat-footed and SE (as usual or should I say, as normal) were caught off-guard. They knew that Apple would come out with something good, and "revolutionary" but they did not expect this. As a phone manufacture SE is not bad, but as a business SE has quite a bit to learn. They seldom listen to their customers, and are usually late to the party. I have become more and more disappointed in SE in recent years. Maybe it is the Japanese influence or maybe SE can't be bothered, but if they were buried by this new iPhone I would not miss SE one day.

RIP SE. You won't be missed.

I've got a couple of opioions about the iPhone, some of them are:
* It has a cool interface, but I think it might be a bit strange to get used to...
* Its shape isn't the nicest thing I've seen (looks too simple, their computers look nicer)
* Lack of 3G isn't good.
* And the worst thing: It's way too limited when it comes to expansion... It's got NO Java (J2ME) and it won't install unsigned 3rd party apps... (info from a reliable Swedish news source)

No way I'm getting it.
