In the new firmware, the GPS lock-on is definitely faster. Now I always got a lock in less than 2 min everytime from cold-start. Not that the previous firmware has any GPS problems except maybe the GPS receiver is not as powerful/sensitive as a standalone one and takes slightly longer to lock on.
Maybe in the new firmware, the power to GPS is boosted. Just have to see whether the power drain will be more when using GPS.
