Hi,
there is an UIQ 3 version of Garmin Mobile 10.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/s[....]&product=010-00579-00&&pID=420

BUT it only works with a Garmin GPS receiver.

I tried it, but TT6 is the best UIQ 3 GPS solution.

I have a wayfinder GPS receiver and it works great with Garmin.

Exactly.
Any BT GPS receiver works with garmin. Garmin locks the software based on the maps, not the brand of GPS reciever.

actually thats not entirely correct

The Garmin XT (i.e. without GPS) that I am using on my TytN II will work with any GPS if I use the original micro SD card it came on.

If I copy the software to another card and use it on my TyTN II it will only look for an external garmin GPS

So if I want to use my old GPS unit I will have to swap memory card every time I want to use Garmin?

Can anyone confirm this for P1i?

Oh right, thanks

It seems for many people with an S60 device, it works with external.

Thanks to homerjay1977 for these pics:

As many people seem to complain about the battery usage of internal gps recievers, I find myself increasingly interested in the use of cell towers to triangulate the phone's position, as this requires no extra hardware.

Does anyone think this system will become more accurate? Is it a matter of software refinement, or is the limitation that we're using the network in a way it was never designed for?

^^^ can done easily...

but triangulation tracking via a phone isn't that quick, the networks don't update quick enough, it can of course be done but it means that alll base stations and tranmitters need to be replaced or updated.. needless to say, that is a very expensive job that I can't feel the networks will jump at......

tomtom V6 works fine on the P1i for me.....

I've had no issues at all

You can't go wrong with Tom Tom.
If it exists, you could use a UIQ version of Garmin.
I would stay clear of Wayfinder as it uses your Data connection to download maps (hence it becomes costly).
