I've had a ton of SE phones, but the K850's built quality issues and camera problems are enough to keep me from buying. I'm getting the N82 instead. I wouldn't yet say that SE had lost their edge, but they're definitely in a trough. Nokia is on the upswing and approaching zenith.

It's pretty obvious that SE has been struggling with their high end phones for a while. Now with their overpriced W910 and K850, they might see some market backlash.

The K850 actually looked ok, but the build quality looks shocking compared to the good old T610/K700/K750/K800. Shame really.

Though I still reckon they're the best mid range manufacturer, but their higher end better improve soon - the iPhone is looking better each day.

I miss a time while SE give us something new or innovation that other brand hasn't. example :
- p800, 1st phone pda-like with builtin vga cam, touchscreen, stereo mp3, handwriting recognition n expandable memory
- t610, 1st slim, small, sleek bluetooth camera phone with large screen.
- k700, the 1st small n sleek multimedia fone with stereo mp3, radio, dualfront, led/flash light, nice photo result.
- s700, 1st 1.3mp with ccd sensor, led light, dualfront with active lens cover, unbeatable 1.3mp camera phone
- k750, 1st 2mp cam phone featuring autofocus n macro
- w800, 1st walkman phone featuring superb sound quality like no other.
- w900, 1st 3g walkman phone with it incredible video that can record qvga 30fps superb quality (b4 n93 appear) and huge 470mb internal memory +bonus 512mb in the box.

Very bad SE management for Miles Flint especially since he now leaved SE's CEO position to Mr. Hideki Toriyama. He gaved such headaches for the new pres. from those flooding issues about SE quality. anyway i hate the way the former manages SE. in his time K-series has been segragated to W-series and then later on Walkman slowly looses it's harmony as the best choice for music solution as well as P-series(Who won't remember P990 disaster) and K. I do hope this new SE pres. could make a move to reborn SE as what they were before, this could be a big slap in the face of the former

Join the dark side. Although its not perfect, it changed my perception on what a cell phone should offer in many regards. I could never go back to a glitchy brickable phone with an inferior OS and reliability issues. Ever since I customized it completely, it no longer feels like a homogenized commodity.

Great phone

I just made the jump to Nokia after owning nothing but SE's and one Samsung, and have never been happier. I am now the proud owner of a N95 8GB in the US on Tmobile. I've never been happier with a phone! This phone is an incredible piece of technology (dare I say the pinnacle of mobile phone technology at this very moment?!?) that also just happens to be slightly bigger than my old w850i! To the topic poster; have you looked at the N95 8GB?... It really is a phenominal phone! I can't seem to go a day since getting it without finding out some new useful thing that I can do with it! I just discovered a GBA emulator that I'm absolutley in love with (something I'd never be able to do with my old java based SE!), and once I get a slingplayer to beam my recorded tv shows over on to my phone, I'll be in heaven! The battery life is great too btw! Almost as good as my W850i! I use my N95 8GB every day, at the TV studio that I work at, to listen to music either on the STEREO SPEAKERS or on a pair of wired headphones ALL DAY! Sometimes, I even connect the phone to a pair of bluetooth headphones, and listen to music on those too! My N95 8GB battery's lasted me all day so far with moderate internet surfing either over wi-fi or Edge, some game playing (this one while lisening to music), and placing calls or texting on one charge! Sound cool? It is. Wait till Nokia gets its Ngage and Ovi platforms up and running globally. I personally can't wait! I don't see myself going back to SE anytime soon. I just don't see SE digging themselves out of this hole that they've dug themselves into. Sony is a historically proud stubborn Japanese company that's stuck in their ways. As for the N82, I would have gotten this phone instead of my N95 8GB, however I personally think its fugly. Good luck to all still sitting on the fence!

sonyericsson get stronger & stronger every year who goes by...(selling more & more with phones...+ that is stable on their network products (and some other things), i read about some days ago in the newspaper...(yeh i know, have nothing to with phone division..but they represent the in ...he he he

borisisinvin...yes, N95 Black looks ten times better then N95 original..(is it better build quality on N95 black ??? is the slide fixed ????? no cracky sounds from the chassis ???..think N81 and your phone is the onlý Nokia phones who looks realy good............

stake on 3 things..(mostly)...design, quality & music or camera.....Nokia stake more on UI, special features, etc...think most nokia phones have much worse Design, looks often realy dull.

N95 Black's build quality is far better than N95 original and whatever you might say wont change that. Maybe your country gets the worst of nokia, who knows?

The slider is great (super smooth, clicking into place either way with a satisfying 'clunk' each time), doesn't creak at all. My W850i's chasis, slider, and battery cover however have all creaked LOUDLY since day one. Actually, stuff like that doesn't really bother me. What does bother me however, is the little bit of play that I just noticed yesterday in the two way slide now after only two weeks of use since getting the phone. The slider was very secure when I first bought it, however it now moves a little in each direction when shut. Again, not a deal breaker, but a little disappointing considering the price I paid for it. Then again I have a tendency of sticking my phones in my front pocket and that may have contributed to that... :/ The N95 8GB really would have benifited from a lens cover btw. Why couldn't Nokia give it a lens cover like the one they developed for the N82? Looks to me like that solution would have accomodated the new battery that they put into the N95 8GB too.... The solution they came up with is piss poor, to be frank. What's the point of covering that nice "Carl Zeis Lens" with some cheap piece of plastic if thats just going to get scratched?... I lamented in another forum about their decision to place the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the side, but after using the phone for a while in landscape to view videos or operate the music player it now makes sense, and has definitely grown on me. With this in mind I think placing a speaker on the top and bottom of the phone, or both of them on one side of the phone would have been a better implementation of it's stereo speakers. Overall, I'm extemely happy with my purchase! If you haven't given Nokia a try yet, then do so! I promise you won't regret it! I like Nokia's offerings a lot more now than SE's, and it doesn't hurt that you get more bang for your buck! @ plankgatan, I agree with you about Nokia's designs btw. With the exception of the N95 8GB and the N81, Nokia's handsets for the most part are ugly! I think that's what I'll miss the most about SE handsets, the designs...

@plankgatan

If you look back over the Forum we all used to discuss how great are latest and greatest device from Ericsson and then SE where. We discussed how we could get the best out of them.

SE may well of increased market share and even profits for a while but look now at the Forum and at not the occasional post but just how many threads of problems and dissatisfied loyal and committed SE supporters that are unhappy both with what SE are producing and how they relate and treat their customers.

All of which is not good SE have got over the undoubted fiasco that was the release of UIQ3 and things instead of getting better are getting worse. I can never in the 22years i have been involved in Mobiles remember a time with so many complaints and problems with Ericsson or SE products, last quarter profits dropped and by the number of returns of the K850 and the recall of some W910 i will be very surprised if the profits meet expectations this quarter either. I remember earlier this year many were saying SE will be number 2 by year end and sell over 200 million units both of which i really doubt will be achieved now.

If many here are on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th K850 and they are loyal fans and SE supporters just how do you think the average person that doesn't even know about SEUS and firmware will of reacted. Some on this Forum are not buying the K850 at all and others have had enough and going to another brand. I have never seen so many SE fans buying a Nokia as with the N95 and it looks like many are now going for the N82.

You really wonder how SE are blowing it i would of thought that was pretty obvious it's not what they have done in the past it's what they are doing now that counts. All of which really saddens me for what was once such a great company with truly great and innovative products and yes i do blame Sony no two ways about it, cheap marketing is no replacement for quality and innovation.

Marc
