G-series has nothing to contribute when it is based on 2005 spec (P990).

that's just short sighted. You are judging the g series as if they are a p series, but this on not a replacement of p series, it's a replacement of K series.

Think of this, the K series has A200, non-touchscreen. The g series has finger touch ui and UIQ. This is actually a huge advance and completely new. SE hasn't done anything like it yet, and arguably only the iphone has a touch UI in such a mid-range segment. And no one imho has a candybar smartphone with touch interface. This is the innovation that we have yearned for from SE. Don't knock it, embrace it.

I believe this thread is valid. The author is quite entitled to express opinions on the collective styling merits of 's recently announced models. After all, we have a thread for the best looking SE phones, The prettiest cars and even a thread introducing one of SE's female phone designers.

As my signature quotes, "Innovation in styling comes from innovation in packaging". This is why phones like the S700, W900, Z800/V800 and P800 were so popular. While the G series spec is good the styling really isn't any improvement on a K610. The C series is better looking but still conservative IMO, hardly the bold design of the K810 or K850 or the funky retro (T28) look of the W350, but then that's because SE did something innovative with how it placed the buttons on these models.

But traditional candybars don't have to be boring as the W880 and T650 can attest to. The key to these models is unconventional buttons and quality of materials providing a positive difference in feel over the conventional plastic fantastic offerings. The G series just doesn't appeal to me on so many levels.

The ultimate evidence of a lack of innovative packaging is Motorola. After great models like the Star-tac and Micro-tac, V3 and SLVR, they ran out of ideas and let the packaging and therefore the styling slip. That V8 RAZR looks hideous. That it's also under-featured adds insult to injury. I'll upset alot of people here no doubt when I say that should never have built the P990. It was always pushing the P series theme one model to far, with no real innovtion, and a style no other manufacturer wanted to copy for good reason, I always felt that SE should have fast tracked the M600 and P1i instead. Because they didn't they are now one generation behind I believe.

Come on , we know you have the technology and the features, how about some 16 M colour Bravia screens that go all the way to the edge of the phone? When is the transparent battery I read about coming? Or the MAG-LEV slider? How about a multi directional three or four piece slider? How about a 25x Optical Zoom that runs the length of the phone with the lens on the top surface instead of the back and a hinged screen. Or a phone that doubles as a cycle computer? I'd have that in a second! In the mean time, how about TRUE SUCCESSOR's to much loved innovative models like W900 and Z800.

Good call carkitter!

I think the X1 is nice looking, but after thinking for a long time, I've decided it is not SE styling. With good reason too, if HTC did make it. Perhaps they designed the exterior as well as the insides.

The W980i looks nice but doesn't innovate much. Same with the Z770i which copies Motorola, which I believe is not a direction SE want to head - people are sick of Motorola's RAZR design. There is nothing new in the design. The Z800 flip phone had the cool MotionEye with 6 LEDs. Plus it looked like a Japanese phone. And its camera at the time was one of the best, especially for a flip.

The G series both look old. I can agree with carkitter 100% there. Both their keypads remind me of a K610 or K618 kind of styling. Boring and lackluster, especially for phones which are expected to sell in droves. It's not going to happen if they don't look good. Design sells, there is no doubt about that.

With the C702 and C902, sure the C902 looks nice, but it is conservative. SE can't rest on the fact it is slim. The sliding camera cover is interesting, but its hardly worth all the development I bet they put in. The C702 has very divided opinion. I can't see how SE let this design through to production. SE have proven they can make phones which appeal to absolutely everyone, yet they bring out the C702, a mass market phone, looking like this?

Has SE changed their designers or something? Or are they falling back on designs they have already used just like Motorola? I sure as hell hope not.

design is subjective.
A may like xperia but B may dislike it.

Hmmm.... SE designed different phones for different consumers. BUT THEY CANNOT SATISFY ALL USERS!!!~~~~ Either you choose your favourite closest matcing phone, or you simply go and custom made one yourself!!!! (Think of all the phones SE came up with!!! Theres many variations aren't there!?!?!) As for me I go for BOTH design and function wise, probably more for photography, so c series more probably for me, BUT!!!! I'm saving for its better flagship xD

I like the styling of the X1, I actually think it's classic SE styling. The formfactor design (with the curved edge) is innovative, although it's been used once before once by motorola.

The G series are a little boring, but the SE mid range, aka K750, K610, K810 etc, always has had plain stlying. Basic candybars with subtle styling cues but plain conservative looks overall.

It didn't stop the K750 being a success, and let's face it the K750 was no style innovator. Nothing appearance wise about that phone was anything but conservative. But on the inside it was a power packed do everything handset.

SE disappointed me with C-series, i ain't talking about design but main feature they made for, camera. according to Eldar and jmcomms, C902 cam quality is worse than K850i that was another disappointment(at least for me). now i don't see the point of 'Cyber-Shot'. if SE want, can make a decent cam module with today's technology, technology used for producing K850i sensor but with 3.2MP, then we can have better cam than K800i/K810i. ok we should wait and see, but at the time i heard K850i has 5MP with same sensor size as in K810i, i found it should be worse, and now we see. and i doubt C702 can be better.

i extremely agree with DonJuan here

Ppl are so funny in this thread after reading 4 pages of ppl saying i dont see the point of this thread. Well if you dont get it your just stupid. SE76 was giving his opinion on what he thought of the designs and he was sharing his thoughts on them. Isnt that what a forum was for. Are we now only allowed to post positive things about SE phones in this forum? Everyone is entitled to their opinion without being put down i believe. But obviously a lot of ppl here cant respect others opinions and are so narrow minded they have to put SE76 down because he gave an opinion. I agree with you SE76 i dont really see anything amazing announced, nothing that i havent seen before.

It wasn't as bad. But North American 3G bands were forgotten in some phones and they almost had me selling my N95-2 8GB with the W760.

BUT NOT TORCH!!! It was almost perfect. Still waiting for my perfect SE phone.
