If these come out at £100 non-contract they will clean up

They look fantastic

And that is what many of us are waiting for. Do this and apple corners the market for both low and high end users.
My former favourite, and others would feel some heat.

MMS just isn't needed as E-Mail allows you to send better quality pictures or whatever then restricted MMS does. MMS is a tool for Networks to make money out of you some of you need to wake up as it's far from being great.

I beg to differ. I email all the time with my P990, but it's just in that spur of moment when I miss my wife and daughter while I'm away, I'd ask for a picture and my wife would instantlysend me a picture MMS of them, and my heart would race seeing the little envelope with a green play icon. I would do the same in the reverse situation and it would brighten up their day. It's simple, fast and sweet. Sometimes we get consumed by all the technicalities that we forget the human touch. Yes, I'm talking to you Marc.

ditto, and in fact this UI style is where many manufacturers are heading now

I agree about the UI, other manufacturers however, are wise enough not to impose so many limitations on the products. This is the most important thing about iPhone, too many limitations (not mentioning the price of course).

I never used MMS because of the picture limits but I always use e-mail.I send all my pictures thru e-mails, I communicate thru e-mails with friends when I can't call. Besides the limitations everyone knows, I won't get an Iphone because of the keyboard. I couldn't write a damn sms when I win all writing contests with P1i and P990i keyboards!

In my case A2DP is absolutely necessary. Not so much for the music, although I listen it a lot, but more for audible audio business books. Stereo bluetooth gives the possibility to learn whenever one has some free time as headphones could be easily hidden under the shirt and used when needed. In that respect Iphone gets 0 points from me.
From the other side no possibility to create and edit word, excel and power point files, no copy paste function, specially using web-word combination makes Iphone literally non-usable when I think about my needs. I don't know how fast is possible to type using virtual iphone qwerty but on my P1 I type at amazing speed, simply fantastic qwerty.
Mms is another disadvantage of iphone as I send a couple of it every month, very usable function in certain moments.
Video recording is not high priority for me but I like to have a small clip of my 5 year old daughter from time to time and watch it on my phone when I travel.

I think SEs service was called EMO (Ericsson Mobile Organiser) i dont think its used in US or UK, or maybe they sub out to service providers or something, my mistake (I knew i read about a push email/pim sync service from SE somewhere).

True audiophiles would agree that you wouldnt buy an ipod/iphone for its sound quality there are many others ahead/way ahead in terms of sound quality but thats another story. I might sound like an SE fanboy but i have actually been in the HTC camp for a long time now. I bet on the HTC Touch Diamond, now i have it i have no regrets and for me it beats the 3g iphone hands down for what i want:
High Res mobile res browsing ( Loads National Geographic in 16 seconds)
AD2P Wireless Bluetooth (not only do i think the sound quality is great, i hate wires! Come on what year is this!!?)
I can choose from many Sat nav programs
I can video record from my phone if i need to even if its a rare circumstance.
I can cut and paste.
Ican use a portable bluetooth keyboard if i want to (ie igo stowaway props the phone up so i can type comfortably and fast.)
Quad Band!!
7.2mbps 3g/HSDPA!!
Touch Diamond might have faster uploads but not sure.
I can use my Touch diamond as a modem for my PC/Laptop.
Better Camera (yes the diamonds camera is better than the iphones!)
Im not tied to itunes Service.
I can Use MMS if i need to or anyone i know without or does not want a smart phone can send me an mms.
I can use most online messenger services.
It
Smaller form factor even though twice the screen resolution!
Windows Mobile is not tied to apple approved software.
I video call my wife lots. (not having video phone on iphone3g is almost as bad as apple not having their own 2 button mouse until recently!)
I use 3uk and for £30/month i get 500min/txt cross network, free Voicemail, 50 video phone minutes, 50mms, unlimited internet with fair use policy, 300 free min to my wife, most of 3uks tv channels, the best thing about it was i got the lg viewty for free which i sold to get the phone i really wanted at the time!

I like the freedom of being able to choose any mobile phone i want so mobileme is a no go for me as id always have to have an iphone gen x.

I havent had a p1 for a long time, that was about 5 mobile phones ago for me!!

Im sorry i dont know why i presumed youd be getting an iphone 3g, my mistake.

Guys, please, make some calcules...do you think iphone 3g production cost is how much? Do you think its even possible for them to sell at that price with no contract (of course not)

@Dogmann
Check out the comparison b/w w980i and the present gen. ipod. N it was either equivalent or even beat it in some areas.
