The new rules for next year spoil it for me. Why spoil a good ponts system like this?

I do wish people would drop that! It's like saying; if that brick wall wasn't there last week, my dad wouldn't have a repair bill for the car's rear bumper this week.

The system sounds to be pretty good. With the old system, why would a driver in P2 try to overtake for P1, just to gain 2 points? They wouldn't.
Whereas with this system, that one place will gain them a lot.
It sounds a bit daft, but it could work. Wait and see.

I think they'll still do it because second place and so on is done by points so they'd want points still?

So I guess the new podium will have a single block for first place and sod the rest. What if Hamilton has a 10 second penalty and falls way down the order and therefore decides to pull over and save the engine for the next race? That would be fun to watch, right?
Give 1st place 14 points, 2nd gets 8 and so on. The guy who wins the most races will surely win the title. 1st place becomes more valuable as well, none of this 'save the engines stuff'.

the new points system, i think, will make it much more fun near the end of the season... imagine two racers who are close in points and with the same amount of 1st places.... theres gonna be a proper fight instead of it being where someone needs 2 points so plays it safe and doesnt challenge just to get the 2 points!

Formula 1 has axed plans for a new scoring system in 2009, just nine days before the start of the season.
The sport's governing body, FIA, announced earlier this week that the driver with the most wins would be crowned world champion.
But following a protest from F1 teams, FIA says it will defer the introduction of the new system until 2010.
The traditional points system will be used when the 2009 season begins on 29 March with the Australian Grand Prix.

I still believe that whoever wins the last race should start at the back of the grid, would mean much more overtaking and much more fun, only downside is there would be no qualifying which brings in a lot of punters.

Give 'em a normal living wage, ~£30k.
Then another £30k every time they overtake.
