Nope, underrated/overrated equates to the expectations at the price, value is everything, you must make judgements on a relative basis, you cannot underrate a £500 device which should meet all the requirements in its price sector. likewise you cannot overrate a £50 device, which would not be expected to do much, if it does, then it's underrated, perception is much too personal an attribute to be considered in this argument

You've contradicted yourself.
You speak about perceptions of value and preconcieved ideas on what constitutes value then disregard perception as a factor.

Vertu's could easily be underrated. I and no doubt others consider them irrelevant, pointless and overpriced, but to those who use the concierge feature, value the build quality and the bling factor, a X1, N95 or C905 just won't cut it.

Likewise, low priced phones and old style monochrome phones are often obsessively prized by people who love to boast of how many years they've had their phone or how many times they've dropped it and yet it's survived. A 2.0Mp camera, memory card support (or large internal memory) and Bluetooth are the bare minimum I can stand to have. The advantges of any phone without those are overstated IMO.

Again its perception not price that counts in this topic.

@MWEB

The problem now is clearly the definition of the word "Underrated". Your underrated means price vs function whereby my (and most of the others I believe) definition of it is perception vs function. Well, it's up to you if you prefer to remain out of topic

Perception is entirely personal to one's self, making any judgements based upon it entirely worthless to anyone other than yourself

That is entirely the point.
When many peoples personal perceptions leave a good featured mobile phone ignored by the market and generally unloved, that phone is underrated, regardless of price.

Look MWEB, if you wanna argue about perception, it won't hold your argument simply because the topic says "underrated SE phone", not "underrated phone" in general which you adamantly seem to imply. Besides, eventhough SE is known to overprice their phones, each and every phone is being priced relative to their functions within the SE (over)price bracket. Doing anything different than that (good function, low price) would not be likely unless they decide to take the whole ceiling price level down. Therefore, if all SE phones are priced relatively the same, there's no such thing as cheap SE phone with great specs and therefore, no underrated phone according to your definition . It's the same with any other brand, only with their own lower price brackets.

Some SE phones are not over-priced, C905 is fair value for what it offers, new g705 is pretty good too, W902 is expensive and lacks WiFi and GPS, dress it up how you will, performance IS relative to price IMO.

So you seriously think SE didn't compromise on any aspect in C905 to achieve their 'cheap' status? It can be anything from big volume to cheaper material, because making it cheaper just for the hell of it doesn't make sense. And oh, you're not saying C905 is underrated are you?

Well i dont own a W902, so i dont have to big it up in any way shape or form, same goes for the C905, but the latter is more underrated from a neutrals stanpoint.

And with this statement, your logic has gone down the drain for the world to see. C905, underrated...pffh..
