@Junz

That's a very laughable justification since there are so much more that comes to play for sonic output rather than just dedicated chips. Why then can't Clear Bass be implemented flawlessly on non-Clear Bass phones?

From GSM Arena:

"Sony Ericsson W995 is certainly one of the best efforts from the company in terms of audio quality. It easily ranks among the best examples currently on the market getting an impressive number on every reading in our test. We've been quite worried over the past few devices by Sony Ericsson that went through our sound lab but the W995 clearly shows that they are simply exceptions from the company's otherwise excellent record.

The phone flaunts an amazing frequency response keeping within the +-1db range effortlessly with only the lowest of frequencies slightly cut off. Furthermore, for most of its range it is right on the perfect track. Noise level and dynamic range readings are praiseworthy and so are the distortion levels. The crosstalk is also excellent, adding up to one of the industry best quality audio outputs to date."

W995

C901

As you can see, C901 doesn't even stand a chance against mid range Walkmans, let alone touch W995

And of course let's not forget the numerous Best Audio awards to its credit including this

So saying they're just the same because they both don't have DSPs is a huge overstatement. W995 has a very similar audio output to the iPod which in fact has an onboard DSP so I'll never understand this obsession with DSPs

Cheers

Fair enough Well, sometimes I make assumptions that prove to be inaccurate too. Speaking of which, I'm not sure about the other model aliases you mentioned, but C902 is definitely no W902 where audio is concerned since I've tried both before. In fact they're not identical in every way with only the platform and camera module as the exception

something that bothers me on buying C901 is that it looks like 2007ish phones, since most today's phones are touch based.

If I get a better looking phone, I will lose C901's photo quality and if I want both, like Satio, I will have to pay double or triple of price of a C901.

Itīs in the software. I have this terrible frequency response in my C702 and then I uppdated and get the flat frequency response, sounded very good and I donīt get tired to lisening to it. The last uppdate then I got this one back again and wonīt listening to it more! Itīs hard to put your fingers on it but the ears get tired to listening to it after 5minutes and there is no way to adjust it with the eq. Itīs out of itīs range!
I bought a new C901 and it was delivered with the frequency above, uppdate today and still the same non flat frequensy.
For me itīs useless now, I lisening all day long before with the C702, thousens of houers.
My W350 have the same non flat frequensy and there is no new uppdate.

Is there any work around for this? Hack the firmware or something?

Download an acoustic driver to get W995 music quality through headset, that's what I've done Unfortunately it makes the phone useless as a phone as it can't make any calls, there no is sound through speaker now and I haven't bothered to change back

Hi

My priorities for getting new handset are these in this order:
1- Camera, my first priority is camera. I want best picture quality possible with very good video recording.
2- Music. I prefer having a standard 3.55mm headphone jack and nice playback feature from the phone.
3- Gaming. I'm a game developer so I love having able to play games. I want to have a broad range of games to play.
4- Video. I prefer to have xvid/divx/h.264 compatibility so I can view movies with my phone.
5- having WiFi is good (mostly for RSS since internet browsing with keypad seems bad)

and I can pay around 300$ at most.

So after my researches, I found out that C901 has best camera in the market but it doesn't have much other things. on the other hand W995 has lots of features but it's photo quality is even worse than C905, which is still lower than C901. I have a bad feeling or Samsung mobiles so I don't know anything about their S8300 but their video recording is DVD quality. Nokia has N86 but it's expensive.

So please help!

It helps me best if you can provide picture links for comparing picture quality.

if choosing c901 vs w995 only i would suggest c901 and buy some accessories
1>Camera: c901 wins, and install some modded camera driver for BESTEST result(preferably raider cam driver)
2>Music: w995 wins, but if you choose c901, why not buy one of SE Best Headsets like HPM 70/HPM 77 or even MW600 , and install some modded acoustics on it(im using blacklizards acoustics and farfield and im good with it), im sure u can get what you want, except for stereo speakers of w995 against mono of c901
3>SE phones has no problems in this department. for me it's perfect
4>Video: a.>Recording: w995 wins wqvga against c901 qvga only
b.>Video Playback: Tie, both phones cant play divx/xvid, but can play mp4, convert them to mp4 with high to highest quality and fully expanded view to get best results
5>Wifi: w995 wins

additionals
>w995 weighs more and bulky against slim c901 and weigh less
>Xenon Xenon Xenon Flash one of rarest feature for a phone including Active Stylish Lens Cover
>5mp vs 8mp, for those who knows how to use their camera properly mp doesn't really counts its really just the size if you are going to view it full size, but picture quality really depends on the sensors and lens + photography skill
>With that $300 u have u can buy a c901, great stereo headset, a pair of handy stereo speakers and a tripod i think
