I bought an Xperia Active recently, I must say the GPS reciever is very sensitive. Even without using mobile networks, I usually get a good fix within 10 seconds (sometimes a few seconds more) when I'm outside. It's even able to get a fix when I'm inside the house - also without mobile networks - though it's not a very steady fix and can take up to a few minutes to achieve it.
I do have to mention that the built-in barometer has a significant deviation, it measures about 3-4 hPa lower than the actual atmospheric preassure.

If you are dieing to get root there is a way, but you have to downgrade to GB first. I too updated to ICS but I was wise enough (
) to read XDA about root issues with ICS. So I used flashtool instead of PC companion to update from GB to ICS
