> END OF AN ERA: Microsoft buys Nokia
Bookmark topic

In my store today we got the heads up that moving forward Nokia smartphones will be branded as "Microsoft Mobile" with the first devices under the new branding shipping towards the end of the year. They have also told us that nothing will change for current Nokia devices and other as listed "coming soon" it is for future products and will not effect the customer in any form and they will keep the 2 year standard manufacturers warranty.

That's a shame.
Really is the end of an era.
To think just 4-5years ago this was the leading phone and smartphone leader.
The veterans are gone.

It is a massive shame, but it just goes to show the bigger you are the harder you fall. I will miss Nokia once they are no longer on the shelves of stores. I wonder what the last ever model may be. Hope it isn't a low end Asha series but a top end let's go out on a high flagship model.

Even just the name Nokia is a cool name
Flop,I mean Elop sold them down the river & I hate that he still gets a big pay off for being a failure

Yeah that was some golden handshake Elop received to step down. He should of been shot at dawn for his failures instead he earns millions be being utterly useless at his job.

Going out with the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 successors would be great.
A part of me does fear it may be an Asha though.

I think the flagship we all want for Nokia to go out on a high will be Microsoft Mobile's first announcement with their own flagship model as a statement to everyone else that they have arrived and look what we can do.

The successor to the 520/525 is coming with Nokia branding. GSM Arena said they are unsure if Microsoft will or will not carry on with the Nokia brand. If they did they might just sell more phones cos your average consumer will turn their noses up at Microsoft Mobile in a store

It's a shame they're gone. I liked the phones they make. I wonder how buying Nokia would benefit Microsoft?

It looks like the Microsoft mobile re-branding of Nokia Lumia devices takes that step further with the soon to be announced Lumia 830.
