I didn't know it was delayed in Europe.. that's too bad.. they are in a much better position to challenge Samsung there then they are in the US.. hopefully the Z3 launch goes smoothly.

So which one is coming out first, the Z3c or the Z3 ? I would actually push the Z3c because the alpha will be the phone to get in the next few months leading up to the holiday season, and the iPhone 6 of course.

Did you guys see this beauty from Japan ?

Its heading to the US on Sprint... finally LG has some competition on screen to bezel ratio

131 × 67 × 10mm for a 5 incher ... bravo!

Its actually a very clever design.. you need the room under the screen anyway for ergonomic purposes, so why not stick all the antennae, camera (Nokia N9?), ant sensors down there..

Great work by Sharp.

apparently, the sound comes trough the screen.. so you can place your ear anywhere on the screen an hear the other person.

this ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_conduction

I dunno

edit. yeah, its branded as " Direct Wave Receiver"

"technology, which uses the display panel to create sound for phone calls."

I used to have a Sharp phone many years ago. In fact it was two the GX30 and another one I forget they were heavily branded through Vodafone UK but back in those days they were revolutionary cameras. One had a foldable display and 2x optical zoom although it was chunky

the review from GSM arena is in.

Key test findings:

•Good build quality but premium feel suffers from the plastic back
•The screen is sharp enough and great outdoors
•Battery life is better than expected given the small battery capacity (52hr rating, S5 Mini got 72hr rating)
•The speaker loudness is only average
•TouchWiz UI is responsive and comes with lots of proprietary features (but nothing unseen before)
•Audio output quality is great
•Takes great photos and videos
•Video player won't play clips with multi-channel audio (AC3, DTS) or DivX video

feel free to read the full review with the link below

Quite dissapointed in that battery life if I'm honest, I know it's similar to the iPhone 5s but the alpha has a much more energy efficient CPU and with the iPhone 6 looking like it will have a similar battery capacity and THE NEW A8 CPU will run @ 20nm process (same as the Alpha) I do expect the iPhone 6 to have better battery life but the Z3 compact to perform better in that department by a fair bit, chances are we will see many head to head's of the 3 devices in a matter of weeks now so not long to wait.

PS why would you choose the Alpha over the S5 Mini when in the real world performance will be very similar ?

Well the 5s also has a much smaller display (4 inches vs 4.7) and a lower resolution . And the CPU of 5s is 28nm so i am not so sure about "much more energy efficient"- maybe 25% difference?

^ the biggest problem with the Galaxy Alpha isn't the iPhone it's the Galaxy S5 mini, it will be a fair bit cheaper, has IP certifaction, expandable memory and better battery life. All the Alpha has to offer is a slimmer profile, a strip of metal around the chassis, a slightly larger display and larger MP count on the rear camera. Personally I'd rather have the mini especially if the Alpha will be upto £150-£200 more expensive. I really don't see why the Alpha and S5 mini are both available it should be one or the other.

I know the Alpha is here to take some of Apple's sales come the launch if the iPhone 6 but I just can't help thinking the Alpha is the S5 mini on steroids and thats about it.

It will get trough a full day of work without a problem, which is what most phones do these days.. there are very few phones that you won't need to charge at home at night every day, and this one is no different.

What could be argued is that if your phone doesn't hit the 10% threshold every day before you have to charge it might prolong the battery life (not letting your battery die is the best thing you can do) but that's far fetched.. both my iPhone 5 and my 808 last one day with similar use.. granted, the 808 does much better if both phones idle more, but overall..very similar performance.

Even if the iPhone 6 gets rated at 60 or 70hrs, you will still charge it every day anyway.. so for the most part, it doesn't really matter.
