I see your point gelfen - and that would excuse the T610 somewhat - the sad part about it is really that both the Z600 and the all new T630 come with the exact same camera. SE has taken no notice of customers wishes for a better camera even in the newer models.
And SE knows that customers want a better camera because to make it even worse (heres where they really stretch the limit) in T630 instead of adding a better camera, they have added a totaly useless function that will let you resize the allready poor cif image to vga size directly on the phone. Now why would they want to do that ? - the function itself is useless, makes no sence to resize a poor picture on the phone, the result takes up more space on the phone, the picture looks the same on the phone since it will allways rescale to fit the screen. Sure if you transfer the picture to your computer it will be in VGA size - but honestly you would get better quality out of transfering the original cif image and then resize to VGA using an imageeditor, if you absolutely need it to be VGA size, the resize algorithms of any imageeditor is better than the one on the phone.
So why did they do that ? Well Ill tell you - because of dirty marketing - they needed to be able to add the magical term "VGA Size" into the advertizing of the T630 to fool people into getting associations of a better camera - but didnt really want to add a better camera, so they simply pulled this stunt. This is imho really really sad. Lots of customers cannot see through this BS and only notice the VGA term in the adds. And what do they get ? - the same as they got in T610.
Maybe one can say that the T630 is not ment as a direct replacement for the T610 but as an equal model for the middle/lower segment and therefore should not have a better camera - I can accept that if thats the strategy and they launch something like a T650 with better camera to replace the T610. But still one should imagine they could find atleast a cifcamera like the one in my sons alcatel 735 to put in a new model like T630 - and then leave out the no good VGA resize feature that I really think is kinda cheating the customers.
I love my T610 - honestly - the nicest phone around I think - and I do prefer SE phones, cant imagine switching to any other brand - I wanna be able to use themes, and I want the SE menu, and I want the functionality of SE phones (you know easy transfer/synch to pc using IR or BT). Honestly I'm not trying to bring down SE or the T610 with this thread - I would reccomend SE phones to anyone - because SE do make the best phones IMHO.
But I am dissapointed in their strategy for dealing with the customers that do want a "good" camera in their phone. I mean this way of thinking is almost the Nokia way - nothing Id hoped to see from SE.

hey guys,
the T610's camera has mediocre qualities...
so far it's acceptable when I take Large sized pics,
however when it comes to taking Small sized ones,
I ALWAYS SEE A THIN DARK (OR DARKER) LINE RUNNING ACROSS THE VIEWFINDER. As a result of this, the pics
taken under Small also has thin dark lines (it stays!!), unfortunately. This dark line isn't so apparent in well-lit places, though. Just in lesser lit environments (esp. indoors).
Any solutions to this problem?? Or is it plain normal to have some glitches in the camera function??
I'm using R3C f/w.
Thanks.

@earwen: It`s been discussed b4 in here ...i don`t have this problem with R1L...sometimes when it boots up happens to appear on black or blue background but it disapears once the boot is complete.I NEVER take small pics with the t610, the quality sucks but i do love the large ones, i find them ok:)

hey, thanks for the reply.
the reason I'm ever MORE worried is that
I previously used the R1L f/w and I faced no such problem (the line thing)..although you're right and I agree, the small size pics sux~!
but it'll be nice if the small ones are good too..at least without the addition of a line..in my case the line stays even after the boot..that's the prob!
I mean, well, I'm frustrated.

hmm..
I certainly hope the R4C upgrade will fix up everything!
I hope it's not the camera lens prob, juz the software prob, not any hardware prob.
they'll fix it, right??
but I think R4C's not available yet here in Malaysia~
I juz asked the salesperson to check out for any software upgrade to R4C, she said she'll need time and will give a later answer

A sw upgrade2fix this is,imo, very, verx unlikely! They did some upgrades alredy but none2the cam. Why is that? Cuz there's nuthin'2do. As some1 pointed out earlier here, they r using cheap lens to keep the phones price lower. Maybe buying a VGA phone but not a t630 that still has a CIF cam with image improvement . This sux 2!

you mean there's nothing that can be done to solve the camera problem??
I mean...any little chance it's juz the software prob?
cos I don't have problems with Large pics, juz the Small pics.
I'm at loss..really.
Not even a firmware upgrade can help??
when u buy a phone, u buy for value...not
for problematic camera~!! ARGH. lOvE and hAtE at the same time..
