Weird about the SS-xx whatever, what is the difference between the stand and a USB cable? It's just a stand, or?

Updating O2 Phones
Just been talking to a very helpful guy at O2 Customer Support (in the Data Support Dept). He called me back a couple of times and eventually got an answer as to why we can't yet upgrade out phones.
Basically, there is a problem and SE think it is at their end, so O2 are working with them to sort it out but have no definite date.
He did say that O2 DO support the use of these online updates and have used them for other phones. It's just that currently there's a problem with the K700 service.
He also confirmed that there are currently 2 certified (and customised) firmwares for the K700 on 02, namely R2A041 and R2L001.
So, it appears us O2 K700 owners have to wait a little while longer until they fix the problem.
But it is coming, and it will work (sometime!!).
At least the DSS-20 I just ordered from eBay won't be wasted!!

I know this isn't supposed to turn into a "What's a DSS?" thread, but since everyone who's reading this thread may eventually need one for K700i firmware upgrades, and since it's such a poorly documented product, I have a couple of questions that I think others might find useful. I'll throw in some comments in with the questions too.
Disclaimer: I'm as clueless on these things as everyone else who doesn't own one.
1) The DSS stands for Desk
Synchronisation Stand. The Desk
Speaker Stands are the CSS-xx line.
2) Nobody knows what the difference is between the DSS-20 and DSS-25 as this thread
shows.
3) The DSS connectors plug into both the data connectors and power connectors at the bottom of the K700i. The USB cable connects to the data connectors. What are the power connectors connected to? Can the phone be charged while sitting in the stand, and if so, how does the charger connect?
4) The SE site has a
page for DSS software. If I just want to use the DSS to upgrade my firmware, do I need to install any other SE software or just these drivers? (I like my TDK BT software just fine.)
5) Last but not least, what's faster for transferring data, Bluetooth or DSS?
Hope nobody's mad at me for posting this, I think these questions encompass most of our confusion.
