I bought my phone at vodafone in London and now I am using it here in HK. The phone of course is now unlock.

1) When new firmware is released, can I just bring it back to Vodafone to upgrade?

2) Any charges?

3) And will it Relock my phone?!

Thanks.

@dumbdumb

You should be able to have the firmware upgraded by Vodafone UK, assuming that you had the handset officially unlocked and didn't invalidate the warranty by unlocking it yourself or through a third party.
I would imagine that SE will provide an online firmware update service for the V800 as they have already done for other models. This may save you the 'leisurely stroll' that is the trip from Hong Kong to the UK.

I'm not too sure if upgrading the firmware will re-lock the handset, I wouldn't have thought so, but you would be best asking Vodafone themselves or wait until someone more knowledgeable in such matters is able to post.

hi there... i h8 to be the bringer of bad news but voda wont do a fw update on request... i bet yeh if u go into a normal voda store (not one of the experience stores) and ask for a FW update u will get blank looks all around unless u r lucky to go into a store with an in store geek...

In other words, you are the person the other staff members unload customers who have a problem they don't understand onto!

lol... ah yes, the technical person in store... wen i first started i was one of them sales people who as soon as someone came in askin about data products they were swiftly ushered over to me...

All the engineers in Voda's Experience stores are from the repair company INTEC, although this is due to change very soon... they are only authorised to do repair jobs on phones and update the SW version on the fone... As far as i could find they cant do FW flashes in store and neither can Intecs main repair center...
