So much water was moved in the tsunami that new islands have been formed in the indian ocean, and exisitng ones have been covered in water. Most of the city of Aceh is under water, unlikely to reemerge...
The earthquake was caused by a 600mile stretch of rock moving 30metres!!! The strength of the quake caused the centre of the earth to compress os much that the earth wobbled on its axis for hours after the quake, this also sped up the earth's rotation, we have no lost 1 millionth of a second per rotation, doesnt sound like much, but to speed up something like the Earth, its just unbelievable...

@SE Rules: Amazing! Hearing that for the first time, really. Really amazing, scientifically speaking.

@SE Rules: Somalia in East Africa is separated from Nigeria (West African coast) by thousands of miles of mostly desertland. What Somalia suffered is child's play compared to what the Asian countries did. @p900 lover: My heart goes out to you, your friend and thousands of others touched by this calamity.

Those people who died, did they deserve to die more than we, the others, which still enjoy life? Were we any better persons, more gifted? It's a question for everybody.

@PIANOSSO: lots of good people died in that incidence, and I can list quite a number of wicked souls here in Nigeria most people would rather had died instead. Truth is: no matter how good or bad a person is, his/her death always leaves behind broken-hearted loved ones. Death itself is the bad guy.
