In my opinion i dont think that memory sticks will disappear in the near future. you see,if a HD is "tiny" it doesnt mean that its cheap. mobile companies know that no one would want to buy a £300 phone even if it had a HD or a graphics chip as well. This might be a general statement, so in my case i would prefer adding another 200 pounds and getting/assembling the latest PC there is.

Another reason why memory sticks will still be with us in the future is that other small electronic gadgets will have memory sticks with them as part of their evolution or integration, an example would be a camera; when cameras went digital they needed memory and memory sticks were the solution.

as for the HDD mp3 players, they last up to 16 hours because they dont use bluetooth/infrared, they dont recieve and send communication data (sms, voice, mms) and they dont have speakers on them(maybe new ones do, i dont know!)

going back to a main subject of mobile phones, the question that everybody should be asking is :

Do u want a phone with basic operating system capabilities?
or
Do u want a PC with basic mobile communication capabilities?

thnx

Definitely the second one!

On the topic of memory cards becoming defunct because of smaller and smaller HDs, I actually think the opposite is true. The only reason that mp3 jukeboxes are currently using HDs is that they have the >10GB capacities needed. As mentioned previously, the MS Pro standard allows for up to 32GB, and once something close to this is achieved, it'll be HDs that start becoming defunct. No moving parts, low power consumption, and quick access to GBs of data - perfect for mobile gadgets!

Sony and Sandisk whom are the only ones (that I know of) haven't written _anything_ about 2 Gb memory stick pro duo _but_ I have found 2 Gb memory stick pro cards. Now that is a big difference. I read the article here http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,114277,00.asp and here http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,117541,00.asp None of them say anything about a 2Gb Memory Stick Pro Duo, they just mention 256-512Mb Memory stick pro duo. There is not even a 1Gb sony memory stick pro duo according to their own homepage http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/memorystick/media_sony.htm# which is weird, I thought they had those already. On Sandisk I only found 128MB, 256MB, 512MB & 1GB http://www.sandisk.com/retail/mspd.asp?nav=mobile still no 2 Gb.. I think this is a hoax and I wont believe anyone who says anything else until I see a _real_ internet store selling the 2Gb and when I also find it on www.sony.com / www.sandisk.com =)

Well I want a 2GB when prices are reasonable.

I can now use my P910i as a reasonable mp3 player with just over 510 64kbps ogg music files on my 1GB card.

Using my desktops built-in memory card reader takes about 6 mins to fill the DUO.

The 2GB will let me carry 1000 tracks.

Use the P910i as phone/PDA/Music player & my PSP for games & Video. Just the two devices.
