Oh dear...

Not to talk about the way you have to open the lid. You just cannot avoid to touch the webcam and make nice fingerprints on it.

You can lift the lid from any point along the front edge, doesn't have to be in the middle. Try moving your hand to the left or right - it's quite easy...

First of all, what is this bollocks you can't maximize the windows?

You can, if you want to (see the little resize gadget in the bottom right of every window? Just drag it - probably too easy for you to manage). But why the hell would you want to? It's a multitasking computer, meaning you can have multiple applications and windows open at one time and click and drag things between them.

If you maximise every window you can't see the ones behind. That's such a MS Windows backwards way of working. Welcome to a 21st Century operating system where you can do more than one thing at a time!

iTunes so let's talk about it a bit then. take a look of the duplicated songs, stupidly handled album names and stuff. Just spent an hour to sort out 5 albums. 1 of my album ended up like 15 individual album. Use album art is a pain in the a** to...

Obviously you have never entered the ID3 tags in your music correctly. MP3 files use ID3 tags for Artist, track name, album name, composer, year of release etc. If you haven't entered that info into your music tracks, then you can't expect iTunes to know it itself!

Quicktime? Thanks Apple, very nice one! You want oto watch full screen video? Buy Quicktime Pro!

No you don't http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19158/qt-full-screen

Thanks Apple, you made me buy a system for a grand and I have to buy your worthless software what should be in there.

Apple never made you buy it - you chose to buy it.

And of course, when you buy a Windows OS, you get full versions of everything with it don't you? No, you get gigabytes of trialware stuffing your hard-disk which takes years to fully delete, and you get reminders to register and buy the full version for ever.

I will buy something nice with XP on!

I think you should. You seem to be more suited to being stuck in a 1990's Operating System world and will never appreciate the Mac's differences and areas of superiority.

Anyone would half a brain would realise that a Mac is not a Windows PC, and they are DIFFERENT. Don't try to use a Mac as you would a PC. You'll never get very far.

But if you decide to use the Mac as a Mac, and give yourself a chance to actually learn how to accomplish things, you will realise, (like every other Mac switcher on Esato), that the Mac really is better (in most areas), and you won't want to go back to Windows.

i spent £1000 on a mac and don't regret it one bit. its not crashed or froze on me once. now have vista on it as well as the mac OS and performance is still spot on.

go spend £1000 on a classic XP PC... tell you 1 thing, it will be nowhere near as good looking!

i gotta agree with everyone else on here...

I bought a mini mac to use JUST for my photography editing as windows is very slow when your editing 2-300Mb photo files... but this little white box thats about an eigth the size of ma windows box??? it handles them like they r 1Mb paint files!!!

AND, without all the constant moaning an groaning i get on ma windows box everytime i try to move somethin from one folder to the next lol...

I only use ma windows box for the net (jus browsing lol) and some games (in ma spare time i.e. once a week!)... everythin else is on the Mac...

Oh did i mention too that the mac likes being hooked upto my 27inch HDTV with the use of a £12 adapter!!! My windows box??? Well i had to buy the adapter... find a certain program that could convert the signal to 1900x1080i and then pay to get the app registered!!! Total cost about £30 more than the Mac... Plus it still doesnt like it 100% and i have now gone back to my 17inch monitor for the windows and keep the mini mac on the HDTV... Looks sweet and is ace for editin pics on

Hi,

I have a quick question.

I have never used macs much, so am pretty ignorant as to how they operate.

My parents are going to the US for a holiday, and want to buy a macbook (to use whilst they are there). My question is: When they buy a Macbook, will they be able to just turn it on and use it. Or will they have to have internet access to register it, and have to set it up etc.

Basically, will it work straight out of the box? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Now, this will be funny from me who just wanted to smash it yesterday and giving advices today...

Yes, they will! Open the box, connect the plug and switch it on. The system fill find the nearest WIFI spot, even before the OS comes up and will configure the mail client in a matter of second, with only a couple of simple questions! Even, if your parents have some weird email provider, it's not that hard to set it up, if you know the correct POP3 or IMAP settings. But if they prefer, to use it with a web browser, what they have to do is, launch Safari, type the address and ready to go!
Plain and simple!

@everyone especially to Jools

To be honest I had one of my worst day on friday, so I'm not very surprised of the way I was talking about this little thing. You know when you upset, you'll hurt the nearest person and in this case it was my new mac ( GF away LOL ).
Yeah, it has some weird and strange stuff, but I'm sure if you had a Ford before a Merc S600 you will think that was easier to use.
So, sorry guys if I've hurt your feelings! To be honest I'm still not covinced, but give me a week or so and we'll see. I've also started to read the Macbook for Dummies book...
Oh, and Jools thanks for the link and for the advice of the window resizer! Wont be a bad idea, to read book a before I open my mouth... Sorry!

Not sure if you can turn it off but you don't need to switch your mac off unless you not going to be using it for a few weeks i.e. when you go on holiday. Mine is constanly on i just leave it to sleep.

Leaving it asleep doesn't use that much energy anyway and i don't keep it plugged in.
