Being british I feel the need to state that "poms" are australian.

Although the australians do refer to the british as poms, the term actually refers to australian citizens. This stems from australia originally being a prison colony for british criminals. When transported the prisoners had P.O.M.E stamped on their papers, meaning Prisoner Of Mother England.

The correct term for the british is "limey".

Thank you.

@ Siosal,
In the original context, there is merit in what you have stated. However, you may just have heard of these other common refernces and etymolgies of the term, you being British of course:
(both for Pommy and Pom, care of www.answers.com)

Pommy
The term Pommy for a British person is commonly used in Australian English and New Zealand English, and is often shortened to Pom. The origin of this term is not confirmed.

One etymology of the term is thought to be that, as the majority of early immigrants to Australia were British, it is rhyming slang for "immigrant" from a contraction of the word "pomegranate", or possibly more directly related to the appearance of the fruit, as it bears a more than passing resemblance to the typical pale complexioned Briton's skin after his or her first few days living under the hot Australian sun.

Another etymology, is such that POM is a shortened acronym of Prisoner of His/Her Majesty (POHM). This refers to the fact that most of Australian's first settlers were convicts, sentenced to transportation. Upon arrival in the country they would sport a "uniform", with the four initials emblazoned on the back. Convicts with an extended stay on Australian soil would no longer have to wear the shirt, and would often refer to newer entrants into the country as "Pohmmys". The modern term excludes the H. Such actions could have presumed the Australian trait of self-joking. But though this may be commonly believed, it is believed to be false, as the term was coined long before acronyms were believed to be used in common parlance.

Another etymology suggests it is short for "pompous", which Australians often consider the British to be.

What do you think of the other etymological meanings then? All others incorrect or not? Let us know; I'm always keen to learn more and stand to be corrected. Thanks.

Although I'm a non-smoker I tolerate people smoking in clubs...at times though it does get bad like three weeks ago when I tried to watch a football game at one of my favourite spots in Kloof...hadn't been there for five minutes and the smoke became too much.

Anyone know how I can fool Vlive into allowing access for Spodradio...is Vlive even free for contract subs like myself or do I need to get a PAYG sim?

There simply has to be a way. I can't believe Vodacom has not thought about providing an audio service similiar to it's video service on Vlive.

About the radio thing, handsets are certainly able to handle podcast-type things...Now to get it implemented. Vodacom always thinking one step ahead and skipping out on some services that could actually be big...

I tend to be one of those occasional smokers: Pipe tobacco(love the smell!) and Hubbly(plus the occasional cigar!). Must say smokers aren't the most considerate people in the world. Just imagine a street without a million cigarette butts all over! Impossible!

Right, due to the fact that we're not flying home this year after spending vast sums on purchasing a house here, I now have 2 family members flying over to the UK on 13 August. They fly back to SA on 27 August.
If you guys see a UK special in one of the many links that I post that particularly takes your fancy(or elsewhere on a UK site that you may have seen), then let me know, as I can get them to take a sim-free phone or two back to SA if the phone you're after is on special here or whatever.

Not to worry, I ain't charging any commision and what you see on the net,price-wise, is what you'll pay. Only the exchange rate will be a fluctuating factor.
Payment arrangements etc. can be made via PM etc.
Just let me know by the end of this month at the latest if you're interested.
