THE triumphant home- coming of Private Jessica Lynch probably says it all about Dubya's America.
Jessica wasn't involved in a shoot-out in `Ee-rak', but a road accident.She didn't do anything particularly heroic. She wasn't incarcerated in prison, far less tortured by the Iraqis. She was taken to hospital - she didn't need to be rescued by anyone.
But that hasn't stopped them awarding her the highest of military honours. Which surely cheapens the medals of all those servicemen and women who genuinely earned and deserved them.
It's not Jessica's fault, of course, but that of those who hyped up and spun her story. But then, what else can we expect from a nation which honestly believes John Wayne won the war single-handed?
now thats shocking!

I don't like the sun, the heat, the sweat, the stickiness, the sight of Scots developing melanomas on their melanomas or, my pet hate, fat girls who insist on wearing crop tops to expose their stomachs.
Don't get me wrong, I like curvy ladies, but the sight of a white stomach hanging over a waistband is enough to make me lose my lunch.
If that wasn't enough, they get their belly button pierced to look like a tire with a nail stuck in it.
I've never understood the obsession everyone has with the sun.
Not only can it give you cancer, it'll also age you as quickly as Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell have aged in the last eight months.
The few rays we get each year aren't enough for most people, they have to head abroad, many to Spain, which doesn't appeal to me.
Not only is it too hot, but I've always had a fear of being involved in a terrorist attack by Basque Separatists. The idea of being injured, or worse, by people named after an item of lingerie, is just too terrible.
Booze also goes straight to your head in the sun and you end up hooking up with someone you wouldn't normally look sideways at.
In days gone by, you'd catch crabs off Oban pier, now it's from somebody you met in San Antonio.
This year I'll play it safe and go somewhere I understand the lingo, have no problems with the currency, I'm almost guaranteed sex (taking the girlfriend), can get drunk cheaply and it is recognised as one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Yes, I'm joining the thousands of yanks who pay a fortune to fly to Bonnie Scotchland.
