The big advantages of Tytn comparing to P990 is that:
-is already available
-is far more quicker in every job and stable( yes i have played with both of them, i am not lying)
-has a huge list of software ready to be loaded
The advantage of P990 is
-radio
-better camera
-The form factor is more practical for someone who wants to make many phone calls and the sound when speaking to someone is far better to P990(than any windows mobile device).
So, choose what best fits you!
actually, they are quite different phones - P990 is unique in the fact it is blackberry-style format, but with a touch screen and keypad (which is quite handy). With the TyTn, you need 2 hands to write an SMS or email with the keyboard, which can make the whole experience of the P990 worthwhile. Also, voice with P990 is awesome, so despite the bugs (that are being fixed one by one with firware releases), I still believe it is a real phone with PDA capabilities, whereas TyTn is more of a mini-PC. Form factor etc makes a real difference...

I have to admit, I'm not enjoying my TyTn experience so far. I've not had any time to dedicate to it, which means my testing has been pretty random, and of course all my previous experience is with the P-series (last PPC was the first Fujitsu-Siemens Loox). My 'ex-P-series user' impressions are:
- The keys aren't as quick to use as the P910 - the scroll wheel is smaller and softer to click, making it not as quick or easy to use. Scroll wheel integration isn't as comprehensive as the P... I like the idea of being able to scroll character-by-character through an email (P), rather than it having a Page-by-Page scroll (T), or an unreliable item-by-item scroll-through in the web browsers (T).
- Having the omnipresent favourite 4 apps at the top of the screen, and the status indicators at the bottom
- I still think Tracker 4.x was the perfect Today screen app: not just as an app launcher, but with Speed-SMSes, speed-web-pages, etc. The favoured SBP apps I've tried on TyTn come close, but again, not as productive
- I've somehow managed to switch off all sound (system, call, etc), and it's not in the sound settings; yet to work out how to switch this on!
- Screen, fonts, etc. is generally smaller than the Medium P-series settings, and not as quick to read as a result. I think a larger font would make the screen less manageable.
- I still like a flip to protect the screen - which means I don't need to worry about a large, delicate screen area that either needs a case, or is ripe for accidental pressing, breaking when dropping, or scratching with keys in pockets.
On the plus side:
- The size is fine, and it feels solid. Also, in the same way that some people said the P910 keyboard was fidgety, but I then found I can get 20-30wpm with my thumbs, they said the TyTn keyboard is too small for touch-typing - but I'm nearly there!
- You couldn't write emails or apps with the P910's T9 keypad - can you with the 990? (I know a couple of 3rd party apps support this, but they weren't seamless).
- I can hold the TyTn in one hand, and if I slide the stylus half-way out, I can brace my forefinger against it, and type on the keyboard with one thumb. Not quite the intended one-handed operation, but it works.
Overall - I find the 910 more tactile: I can spin the jogdial and position the cursor predicably, precisely, in most apps, whereas the TyTn is more hit-and-miss. If something's happening, the information on the 990 is always there, accessible in a split-second, and in a couple of keypresses, while in the TyTn I have to search, study, squint, think, checking whether my keypresses are being handled.
3rd-party apps as an answer are OK, but not for the core, frequently used functions; these need to be seamlessly integrated and lightning fast. I still revert to my P910 for that at the moment.
Of course, I'm sure most of this is lack of familiarity, but I think some is because the UI of the TyTn is less focussed, than the 990.
Today's crunch day on whether I keep it, or send it back to T-Mobile. But from what I hear, the 990 doesn't yet feature the usability benefits that I've described the 910 as having, anyway! Decisions, decisions!

I had the same problem...
The way I got my contacts into Firstname Surname order was to go into Outlook 200x and change the 'file as' option for each contact to firstname surname...
then I re-sync'd against the TyTn
If I'm not mistaken there's also a commercial plug-in / utility that does a similar thing (dont ask me what its called though) but if you only have a couple of 100 or so contacts it shouldn't take long to set them manually.

Went to vodafone store today to swap over my Voda v1605 and i now have a HT631 which also seems to have a newer firmware compared to my old one
ROM Version - 1.20.161.6
ROM Date - 08-02-06
Radio - 1.03.06.00
Protocol - 32.34.7010.01w
.....I also had the chance to swap it over for the long awaited P990i as they had plenty in stock...
first impressions, i did not like the p990i. looks good from a distance, but feels very cheap once in your hand. played around with it, and i also did not like the qwerty keyboard.
I think i have just got used to the tnyn now and like using tomtom on it.
