first of all i must say that example c902 (and upcoming c905) CMOS sensor produce better pictures then I-mobile902..... (its only night shoots from i-mobile ive seen who have better quality then c902/c905).

just because its a CCD sensor, it dosent mean it produce overall stunning pictures. besides, there are many high quality cameras with cmos sensor now days... Canon EOS and so on.

im very pleased with new cmos sensors........

yes and no. the EOS sensor is atleast 12 times as large as the C905 sensor (probably more like 20 or 30 times). It has outstanding performance characteristics for a CMOS sensor precisely because it is so large (low noise). Olympus have also brought out CMOS based DSLR in the 4/3rds format. - this sensor is very good quality for it's size - about half the size of an APS-C sensor. So you are right that CMOS sensors are getting better, but truly good quality CMOS sensors are only used in DSLR's atm.

The CMOS sensors in camera phones are still pretty crap compared to CCD.
You will notice most compacts use CCD.

When you look at noise profile of C902 compared to imobile, the imobile comes out way on top. It doesn't have the water-colour affect that results from the C902 using too heavy handed Noise Reduction to deal with the noise problem of the tiny cmos sensor.

Over all I would judge both camera phones equal, with the imobile having superior detail (without noise or heavy NR).

superior detail by i-mobile ??? hope you kidding me....
night shoots and most indoor macro looks great with i-mobile902, BUT outdoor, daylight pics, (landscape, larger views, etc) looks crap...

i-mobile902 daylight pics is just smeary even in shrinked size, and even worse of course in full size. (it have no clear, sharp quality at all, it may have less Noise, but the quality overall ????).

some random i-mobile902 pics.....dont tell me this have superior details,
(honestley, i didnt find many sharp, good outdoor pics by i-mobile902 inside the photo section)....so much for CCD.

i much prefer c902 high quality pictures in A4 or A5 (because this is the sizes I (and most people) watch or print the pictures in)
and i defentliey prefer this clear quality c902 cmos sensor produce then this smeary quality i-mobile902 gives.....

low light c902 (cmos) crop

But when it comes to low light or indoors, where ever noise comes into play, the C902 has to apply major NR while the imobile can get by without it. NR introduces the watercolour affect which fudges out detail.

And I find about 30-40% of the pics I take are in conditions other than bright daylight or well lit areas.

Still, that said, I'd still own a C902 over the imobile, since the imobile is a pretty shite phone in my view. And as everyone knows I'm sure, I'm a big fan of the SE UI.

C902 sensor is far better than K800 and K850; c902 doesn't need anywhere as much Noise Reduction. And C905 is better again, so SE are improving all the time.

But imobile is a couple of years old now, so you can't really dis CCD on the basis of a comparison between C902 and imobile 902.

I think most will agree with me that it's far cheaper to produce small CCD sensors with reasonable quality than it is CMOS sensor of the same size and quality

well. if we speaking about small, real kick ass CCD sensor...ex, Sony cybershot DSC-T1 sensor, then yes, it just awesome...
but if we speak about (and you did) i-mobile902 camera quality....its both good & bad. (night & indoor.macro is great......outdoor/daylight have often this smeary quality. it feels watching through a filter who makes everything unsharp)

about low light by c902...see above or here: http://www.esato.com/phonepho[....]&make=sony+ericsson&model=c902 ...its taken with a c902 cmos sensor and looks pretty clean to me, even in full size
