@Masseur,
Nice work! And many thanks for the info. I'm still chicken sh*t to hack my iphone - which is VERY strange as I've done it to every SE phone and S60 phone I've ever owned. It's not like I'm very busy during the days.

I've been jailbreaking and unlocking since the iphone 2g so I can use my aussie sim when needed on trips back home, and this is by far the easiest.
when you think what Apple are doing to prevent this activity its laughable how easy it is actually!

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Iphone 3GS and was wondering what software there is to be able to convert and watch films on it? And do they play well?

os x or windows.
On OS X ive been using VisualHub for a few years now, they've stopped developing the software now but tbh all the newer ones dont come close to it.
Not sure about windows though.

quicktime can convert quite a bit for the iPhone but I use DVD Catalyst because its sofwtare I've had since the WM days and they're still updating it for new devices and it does a pretty good job too

I used DVD Catalyst on the PC, it's a nice and easy (and free) solution.
Now I've got a Mac, I've been experimenting with Handbrake (also free) and intend to use that, although to be honest I haven't gotten around to using it in anger yet.
Edit - just reread Masseur's post - can Quicktime really do this all by itself? I'll have to try that.
