People tend to forget even though last year the Arc/ Arc S were just single core devices they were better performing than all DUAL core CPU handsets from LG, HTC and others and almost came close to matching the Galaxy S2. I would agree with this, I prefer my arc over the S2 but my point is how much of an overstatement it is when doministry says, "Xperia S will be the class of it's own for a long time." when like others have pointed out, this is the device which is making S(E) catch up with the current competition, yes it may put it in a lead but that lead will be short lived. People looking to buy the latest tech phone will want the latest thing. It doesn't matter if actually isn't much better then the norm. It was the same in the mega pixel race, everyone wanted 8MP but no normal user realised that just because its 8MP doesn't make it the best. And it was the same last year, people could choose between the arc and the S2. One was good, but it wasn't dualcore and that's why the S2 was a flying success because it had a nippy advertisement selling the dualcore and people thought that this is what is best.

So it will be the same this year, you will have people looking at the Xperia S and the GS3 and they will go "I will go for the GS3 because I hear its quadcore and that's the best". But as I have already said, Sony will release a quadcore device later on in the year and the Xperia S is reasonably priced (last year the arc and S2 where similarly priced) so hopefully Sony will still be in the running.

Don't get me wrong I love Sony (Ericsson) I am an arc owner, but I am also objective and can look at something at a distance. Unlike the serious fan boys here who cannot allow anyone to have an opinion that god forbid it isn't a positive comment about our beloved SE. Seriously get a life, you might not agree but forgod sake respect others' opinions!

So much talk but what's the conclusion?
I thought users here buy devices because of performance, not because it's advertised lol.
Completely strange argument. This way everything loses to iPhone and everything SHOULD be like iPhone.

For ppl who are all concerned about the camera image quality being only a bit better than ARC S, Let me remind you guys that the Xperia S is only running on 2.3 Gingerbread like the ARC S. I think what SONY did was just port the ARC S firmware to the Xperia S and thats why you see a lot of similarity between the camera image quality of both these phones.

Basically what am trying to say here is that Xperia S has the same Camera software that resides in ARC S. I believe that any improvements to the Xperia S camera department would come with the ICS update that SONY has promised.

"Almost came close" being the keywords there
Thats like Ferrari saying 'The Enzo almost came close to matching the Bugatti Veyron', end of the day it didnt happen.
Its about having the latest Hardware, best performance and excellent marketing, all in one, thats what has made both the GS2 and GNote successful, the sooner Sony pick up on that the better, im already seeing one of those missing in the Xperia S.

HxH
Eh? What are you on about? Battery pack?

I think you misunderstood my point Bonovox. We all know that SONY puts its own camera customization and does not use the default Android's. So with the SONY ICS update, there will be an improvement to the camera department too. By saying camera department, i mean the software such as the compression/noise reduction/color rendering algorithms, etc that do the image processing after a shot has been taken with the camera.

This is how software development works. You do versioning. When you have one particular version, would you enhance its features and not advance the version number? Yes you would advance the version number along with improvements.

So I believe that the improvements will come with the next version. Hope you get my point

But the other manufacturers will do this to, and by the time we see ICS for Xperia S the GS2, GNote, Sensation and Sensation XE will have ICS already as they get the update from next week.

As Bono said, hopefuly the final firmware will atleast bring great improvements to the Camera.

Thats what am trying to say here. The final firmware for the Xperia S will be the ICS firmware update from SONY. Gingerbread firmware in the Xperia S wont have any improvements to the camera department.
