FY2016 Consolidated Financial Results
Consolidated Financial Results for the Fiscal Year Ended March 31, 2017
- Sony's shares closed 3.84 percent higher on Monday after it raised its earnings guidance.
- Analysts expect its operating profit for the year ending March 2018 to exceed levels not seen since 1998.

if i'm reading that chart correctly, it says so far in FY17, they've already shipped 16.5 smart phones? that would be incredible. but i don't think i'm reading it correctly. haha

Unfortunately, you got that one wrong. Sony's fiscal year begins on 1 April and ends on 31 March, so it's basically a quarter behind the calender year. Sony actually shipped 2.9 million smartphones in the last quarter (see column FY16 Q4; vs. 3.4 million in FY15 Q4) and 14.6 million smartphones in the fiscal year 2016 (see column FY16 FY; vs. 24.9 million FY15). 16.5 million smartphones is their forecast for the fiscal year 2017 (1 April 2017 - 31 March 2018).

I'd be absolutely terrified of it snapping in my pocket ha ha. But, I think I'd find the black bars of wasted screen really annoying when watching videos.
