Your problem is down to the fact that you have Hong Kong firmware. All non-far east K750/W800 firmwares have multi-character search (this feature was introduced in December 04 in the K700's R2AE033 firmware). Far east firmwares have this facility disabled, presumably because due to difficulties with the native character set.

Only Taiwan and China fw still doesnt have the multiple search, Just try an Taiwan K750 2 weeks ago and R1BC dont have the multiple search .
I am from Singapore and our side all the local firmware from R1AA (W800/K750) have multiple search .

It's not the updater's fault and no need to reinstall windows, all you have to do is find the previous java installer and use it... The latest, 1.5.0_06 if I remember correctly, gives you that message. Install the 1.5.0._05 and it will work fine.

Pictures are taken without night mode to increase noise even further, here are results, it's best to save localy and then shuffle between with ACDSee.
R1BC002
R1AA008
R1CA021
As far as I'm concerned this new firmware is at least on pair with R1BC002 fw, it's hard to notice any difference but I think R1CA021 is a way to go.

@Blade Runner
Finally you updated your firmware, so you prefer which f/w? just by looking at your 3 picture with 3 different f/w(Without FullScreen Mode), Its clear that, in this 3 different f/w of CAMERA QUALITY... R1BC002 is still ahead R1CA021 and followed by surely the old version.. dont you think so?

cheers~..
