ok im moving out and for a going away present mum is buying me and herself a macbook so we can video chat etc etc....anyway...is there a way to get all the music and photo files and such off my G4 powermac hard drive and transfer them with all the folder info and sorting etc onto the macbook without loosing any information.
and plus ive installed some audio unit and VST plugins for garageband in the library, can i just transfer them onto the macbook

When you setup the MacBook for the first time, the 'Migration Assistant' will pop-up and give you the option to transfer all your existing user data (email, settings, prefs etc), apps and settings from the old Mac via a Firewire cable between the two. Does it automatically...
The only thing to be aware of is you'll be moving from PowerPC to Intel, so some apps and plugins etc. may need updating to Intel versions.
Other stuff you can just copy across manually or re-install.

as for the plugins they are all universal binary so should work on both

Is there a way to get the applications folder to show on the dock? I.E. an icon i click on that takes em directly to the applications folder.

Just drag the Applications folder onto the dock, as you would any other icon. Then single-click to open the Apps folder, or click and hold to reveal a menu with all your apps on to launch them.

I'm running out of space on my mac and i don't want to buy an external HDD.. if i buy a new internal one. are there 2 ide slots so i can copy all my stuff from one to the other?
i don't have 200gb of dvd's to use
