I use Nero 9 to convert DVDs to MPEG4. Excellent audio and video quality. Nice to sit and watch your favorite movies in the airplane while the rest have to suffer through old recordings of Mr Bean.

actually, I have quicktime PRO now I come to think of it... but I'm sure I read they enhanced the free version lately to include more iphone/ipod touch conversions
I think you might be right - I certainly remember something about it having been re-written and made more powerful in Snow Leopard (which I have), but I haven't explored it much yet. I'll try it tonight and report back, if anyone's interested.

QuickTime (the standard) in Snow Leopard will export videos (made by iMovie/iPhoto > iMovie slide shows) to iPhone or iTV. Not sure about its ability (even with mpegshow or ffshow codecs) to convert AVI/DIVX videos to iPhone.
* QuickTime Pro updates just shortly after the standard QuickTime and you MUST purchase the Pro license again after upgrading - not fun at all; but offers so many benefits that I've read about.
Personally I cannot convert on my TiBook its just way to slow - so I rely on the WinXP machine I have.
Curious ... is anybody using the MobileMe &/or Mac OS X's Calendar, Notes, Bookmarks sync'ing?

@Masseur,
Nice work! And many thanks for the info. I'm still chicken sh*t to hack my iphone - which is VERY strange as I've done it to every SE phone and S60 phone I've ever owned. It's not like I'm very busy during the days.
Well, don't be scared, the thing is, at any moment, you can bring it back to the original, so just try it, and if it doesn't work, you can contact me, cuz I've had so many shitty problems, I can help you if you want immediate response:) Just don't worry, and trust me, jailbreaking is SOOO worth the trouble:D
P.S.
I've been using HandBrake for DVD files and iSquint for any other files to convert to iPod/iPhone. Don't know about windows

the only problem I have experienced since the unlock was that wifi wouldn't find any access points, but a quick google confirmed a few people have had this problem and all you need to do is Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then reboot. I've had no problems since.

Easy question for all those who have done a jailbreak..
If I do, and want to use my Voda contract sim, how easy is it to find the settings, and then input them?
I am thinking with SE phones, I can go to the website and send settings for most carriers to the SE phone.
Is this a fiddly process for the iPhone?
Thanks,
Ofiaich

the thing about settings is that generally, its phone independant. i.e. the settings are a set of values depending on your provider, whether you're on a contract or payg etc.
Once you know the settings for your service, its just a matter of finding where to put them in each phone.
In the iPhone its in Settings > General > Network
