Ah damn.
I hope this wont be a repeat of the X10-debacle, SE managed to release Arc last year with GB (latest update) out-the-box, was hoping Sony would do the same.
Hopefuly Sony will have ICS for Xperia S out before Samsung GS3 and Htc Endevaour are out, Sony need to take advantage of every bit of time they have.

Oh yeah, WRT Huawei, to those who under estimate them, remember once Samsung and Apple were in Huawei's position, people said the market wont care about them, now here we are with both ruling the smartphone and tablet market. Huawei have had rapid growth, along with ZTE, both overtook SE in smartphone sales, these are the two companies to watch in the next 2years, i see them overtaking LG at some point if they continue growing the way they have.

Big part of most sucesses on the market in the smartphone world
is based on some hardcore marketing, not quality comparisons.
SGS looks like sh..t and has ugly UI, oversaturated screen.
But it's a success, from the company which is pushing hard.
Funny, year ago HTC was the benchmark, now it's Samsung.
It's all quite relative.

Sony will put money on Xperia promo.

rog, or anyone that has the phone, in the stuff.tv review it makes note of a "slight rattling plastic back cover" is this much of an issue, does it make the phone feel less premium?

cheers

Can't confirm this, the cover sits very tight. The only "complaint" one can have is that it is hard to put the back cover so it fits correctly. But since you don't have to do that every day, it is OK.

Not sure where I read it, but 2 weeks after XS goes on sales (around first week of March) will ICS be ready to be rolled out. Seems most manufacturers will start rolling out ICS during March/April.

Except for Motorola, wich will vary between May to September.

I think many would be happy with getting the xperia s sooner with gb rather than a month later with ics and those who want the updates day one should look at nexus phones. Imo, the update cycle of has been the best, show me htc or samsung or motorola updating their whole portfolio to ics. I think we need to chill and give credits to sony/sonyericsson where they deserve...

Also having 3300mah in razr maxx isnt really the answer to battery problems, anyone thought what would happen if that exploded in your pocket? We need more focus on making the os more efficient and efficient hardware. Most quadcores will be out in q2, and then those phones will itself be outdated by q4 when tegra 4 comes out.

As of march 1st week, the most powerful android phone is xperia s, in terms of cpu performance and has the best screen resolution and pixel density. Its not outdated when its released, but will be in the future.

As well as anything on the planet.
What is important is quality.

AFAIK Galaxy Note and GS2 are the most powerful in both CPU and GPU, the leaked Qualcomm S4 results show that the Quad-core Qualcomm chip is far more powerful than its predecessor which is found in Xperia S, but not that much more powerful especialy in graphics next to the Exynos in the flagship Galaxy models and A5 in Apple iPhone4S.

Anyway, lets wait til the final device is tested, but Qualcomm chips are always behind in graphics and effeciency.

The latest unboxing video shows how quick the phone is, everything seems ultra fast with no lag.

With regards to processor and GPU stats, most people aren't going to be bothered, and for me it's about having a really snappy experience with no lag or waiting and going by the first retail versions coming it looks very slick.

Interesting that some of the boxed stuff is still showing SE. Just shows that the SE to Sony transition was very last minute for this phone.

And btw, SGSII case and design is horrid, the most plasticly phone I have every used, even the plastic Arc imo is better than SGSII.

Thats your opinion and i respect it plenty others would say they dont mind the plastic and like the design, we all different.

My main point is that the Xperia S isnt realy the most powerful Android, its another alternative dual-core with a higher MP Camera and HD screen res, it falls behind in many aspects to some phones that are older. The most powerful Android phone available until the quad-cores arrive is the Galaxy Note followed by Galaxy S2. Im just stating facts.

Seems like a great phone, but its definetly not as special as some here would love to believe.
