This makes sense.

Release Z4, ultra, compact. Z4 tablet, compact tablet. Put on premium price tags. Lower your production rate. Make agreements with the big fashion brands for cases. Make appealing ads. There you go.These 5 products would dominate the premium android handset market. Sony is being considered as the Apple of android with the latest hype. It would be unwise not to use it.

I would keep the prices competitive, I'm seeing loads of Sony users on the train so I'm thinking that Sony will move up the sales rank by next quarter.

I think either high end or extremely low end market are the only 2 areas they should be focusing on if MS actually made money with the low end WP.

I wrote about Sony's brand recognition about a week ago and this pretty much confirms what I thought about Sony as a brand with their products.
I just hope they appear more often in America and they can get their shit together when it comes to software and hardware issues.

So far the top manufacturers have been pretty much in the same league in terms of performance (except Samsung's laggy Touch Wiz), since they all used the same SoC more or less. Samsung has been in a downward trend in terms of market share, but I think this year could prove to be very different: If (as the rumors say) SGS6 will use the Exynos 7420 and the others the 810 (which seems to throttle down easily), then we'd have a second tier of the top phones from LG, Sony and HTC, plus the Chinese brands). The 14nm Exynos 7420 seem to be quite a bit stronger than the 20nm 810 in benchmarks. If Samsung is slimming down Touch-wiz as has been rumored, then it could become quite a bit of a gap between SGS6 and LG G4, Xperia Z4, HTC M9 etc.

So, If Sony will continue with smartphones ( as I hope )... then they have to have another partner for SoC...
I didn't wanted to say that as I hate fragmentations, not to mention the more R&D and costs behind having more work in software side, which Sony is already lacking resources to handle what they have already...
But the situation with Qualcomm isn't the first, even Qualcomm depends mostly in TSMC which is the reason of this problems mainly, And if the roadmap leaked is correct, then Qualcomm will move towards Samsung/GF joint for the next step ( 14nm )
What else Sony have as SoC source ?
The major SoC makers are
Qualcomm
Samsung
MediaTek
NVIDIA
Intel
for me, I would skip both Intel and NVIDIA duo to various reasons... limiting the choice to Qualcomm, Samsung & MediaTek
The MediaTek offering are interesting indeed, and Samsung newest chips are very good thought I have some complaints about them...
Seeing Sony already have some experience with MediaTek in the low/midrange before... I think they might put it even before Samsung's.. but the reputation of Samsung Exynos is more solid also... not to mention MediaTek still rely on other manufacturers to build their SoC, I don't know who...
Personally I prefer Qualcomm, but in some situations like this, there must be plan B
So what you guys think is the better choice... I'm not saying now a chip for Z4 which is impossible, I'm saying Sony should have a backup plan in case the 810 problems repeated again...
