Hey guyz! i read thru ur posts 'bout the EFCC's new fight against cyber crime in naija. I don't think our human rights will be messed with 'cos such laws should be well reviewed b4 being implemented(though i know "our nation" might nt put dat into due consideration). And also, as for d registeration of cyber cafes, u should already stuffs like this don't work out fine. good number of cyber cafe's patronize"yahoo boys" & depend on them as their main source of income. Therefore, in order not fall into EFCC's net, they(the cafe's) will eventually buy their way out. U all know 9ja now?

@namzo good overview
@all that is pure ABUSE OF OUR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT. My main grouse with these law enforcement agents is that majority of them know next to nothing about the Internet. For instance a source informed me of an intance some policemen came to a cafe, they 'raided eveyone in sight not mindful of each person's activities. He along with some other innocent ppl had to part with #500 each in other not to be taken to the "station" - can you beat that.
someone also said that some cafe operators aids the so called "yahoo boys". That is just the bitter truth coz these boys oftentims are amongst the heavy "browsers", and thses operator are out to make money - they will ague.
at another time i was opportuned to listent to the conversation of some police officers, the conversation goes thus:
OFFICER 1: Ol' boi town hard these dayz oh
OFFICER 2: to chop now self na wahala (pauses and continues), my wife self no gree me rest.
OFFICER 3: I been hear say "yahoo boys" full surulere and isolo area, and those boys dey settle well.
OFFICER 2: e be like say we go carry out routine raid for that side oh, at least we go get something.I'm not an advocate of yahoo boys, but I strongly believe what the law will achieve is that more ppl will rather subscribe to personal internet connection, meaning that the cafe operators will eventually be made to pack shop.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This means that to register as a user, the user's name, address, telephone, e-mail address and photograph should be available, according to the Act.
The President signed the law on June 5, 2006. And for the purposes of identification, three key data should be provided, from the following: national identification card, drivers licence, international passport, utility bill and/or certificate of incorporation if need be.
According to the Act, telecommunication operators, including GSM service providers and PTOs, which now offer skeletal Internet services on their networks, also have up till September 7, 2006 to register such services with the EFCC. They are also to show evidence of Due Care and Surveillance System, which they have installed in their networks for the purposes of the monitoring of cybercrimes.

@all About EFCC, my views is that how can u catch someone if u don't ave a data base or records that u can check from? Which records do u ave in Nigeria or is EFCC goin to use the data of the National identity card? Funny how our politician live a life of fantasy.

Here is one scenario:
A Yahoo Boy gets caught and the EFCC takes his phone to, say, MTN and asks for the call data records of any number he frequently calls. Turns out your name pops up and you get detained and questioned.
Or, the last person who did night-browsing used the PC you are now using. The EFCC sniffs out the PC's ip from the 419 emails and they come and grab you. But I think they will expect each cyber-cafe to have a log of who browsed and when. So b4 browsing, we each must register and "clock-in".
But like Brix said... it will take some additional processing power to keep all those new records.... something our networks will definitely balk at.
BTW... good to have you back Demmy.

@uchrik Good talk, but do you know some "yahoo boys" usually install softwares in almost all systems in cafes with or without the knowledge of the operators, to steal people's passwords after you might have exited a system. Thereby having access to all transactions you might have made and so therefore continued from where you stopped - impersonatint YOU. Maybe I need to remind us that some people trasact legit biz on the Internet, foe instance WESTERN UNION. can you try to imagine whta happens when someone intercepts your western union details b4 u get to the bank to make your claim. These these happens all the time and the law will only make it legit for dubios cafe operators to steal our identity. As an instance a source ones told me of an experience where someone spied on his password and subsequently changed his password. The truth is most cafe operator are as dubious as "DUBIOUS"
@all now that we make use of the acronym "YAHOO BOYS". The question is who are they? Please I need answers
@coola thanks broda

@all: what these politicians do without thinking or planning. What of this talk of scrapping 6-3-3-4 system? what do we gain from that? our school infrastructure nationwide is based on it. Suddenly all our primary schools have to increase their classrooms by 30% to take in more students!?!?! Our schools that are pascked like sardines as is? We are in trouble o!!!
@SETI@home PNFers: Thanks for your support. Here is a question to ponder: DOES BELEIF IN EXTRA TERRASTRIAL LIFE CONTRADICT RELIGIOUS BELEIFS?
