Both, some are nothing but a novelty way of using the phone but for some people invaluable.

Indeed!

Made for a good read have to agree I asked myself the same questions about some of the features.

Must say though, some of the Air Gesture features are very useful, e.g. Quick Glance, all you do is wave your hand over your S4 once while its in sleep, it will then light up and show a quick preview of the Time, Date, Battery Status, Missed Calls, Messages and whatever song you're playing if you're listening to music, very neat works great when you're sitting at a desk all day or in a meeting.

I also like the Air View features like Information Preview which work great in Gallery and in Flipboard, I just hover my thumb over what I want and it expands it, in the Video player this feature actually plays a good 10sec preview of what ever video your thumb is over whilest smoothly playing the moving thumbnails of other videos , same with Progress Preview, very useful in the Music and Video player if you want a specific part of a song or video, hover your finger over the bar and it will follow very accurately and tap the part you want, when doing this while watching a video it shows small moving thumbnails of what part of the movie you're on over the bar, like this:

Hopefully such cool features will come to my S3 given time.

I don't want to part with more cash this year when my S3 still feels pretty much up to date. In fact more so than some 2013 phones !

Yeah, Samsung did say the GS3 will get any Hardware independent features, I'm guessing that's mostly the Smart Screen features that use the front camera. I'm not sure if the Air View stuff is hardware dependent, I think they are, the GS4 seems to use a modified display panel like the Note2.

Speaking of up to date, wonder when the Android4.2.2 for GS3 and Note2 will be out? What would be hilarious is if the GS3 gets 4.2.2 before some 2013 flagships, in the same way that the GS2 got 4.1.2 before some 2012 flagships

EDIT:

Faryaab claims there's some good news coming, maybe the 4.2.2 leak?

Galaxy S4 costs Samsung $237 to build, more than Apple iPhone 5

The 32GB U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 costs $237 to build, slightly more than the Apple iPhone 5, according to market researchers from IHS. The 16GB Galaxy S4 that should cost slightly less is sold for $639 off contract.

Previous teardowns showed that a 16GB model of the Apple iPhone 5 costs $205 to build and the latest estimate for a Windows Phone was made for the Nokia Lumia 900 that costs $209 to make.

There is one thing that makes the build process for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung devices slightly different than others. While most phone manufacturers buy components from various suppliers, Samsung has the capacity to supply itself with many of the smartphone components.

This allows the company to deliver a wide range of hardware configurations to better suit the needs of different markets. For instance, in the United States, Samsung uses the Snapdragon 600 chip in the S4, while in Asian and other markets it uses its own, slightly more powerful octa-core Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip. The Exynos 5 Octa also costs Samsung slightly more, $28 against $20 for the Snapdragon 600.

Interestingly, some other differences also come with the different processors. For instance, the US version of the Galaxy S4 has a Fujitsu-made image processing chip, while Exynos-based S4s route that processing load onto the processor itself.

Among the parts that Samsung supplied on its own are the flash memory, display and touchscreen components. It is also said to have supplied unlabeled parts like the camera module and wireless baseband.

Good question about the 4.2.2 update for the Note 2.Can't say I'm that impatient for it though. My N2 is perfectly setup running a custom 4.1.2 Samsung based rom called BobCat and I am happy as pie with it.This is still a great phone and I'm in it for the long 2 year haul.First time in many years I will be able to go the distance with a contract. So for me it looks like it gonna be the S5 or Note 3 or 4 in the future.Thats if some other manufacturer/OS doesn't entice me.

Those benchmark pics you posted though did depress me You know me from my X10 days been a benchmark running nutjob.Thankfully now they don't ever get run. Can't be bothered. My phone is fast.My phone is smooth. Benchmarking is for the birds.

Didn't you say you were in it for the long run with the GS2?
Long as you're happy with your setup, the Note2 is one hell of a phone, I saw some AnTuTu benchmarks of it wasting a Nexus 4 have you ran AnTuTu on yours?

Bono

thats exploitation if they don't win it!
