I really don't know why Sony just can't seem to get their screen's 100% right. Most reviewers are saying the screen is good, but not quite as good as the One. On top of that, why does a phone with a 3000 mah battery and 5 inch screen only offer 6.5 hours of video play back? Samsung with their 5.65 inch screen and 3200 mah battery are claiming nearly 15 hours of video play back. That disparity is ridiculous! They're clearly doing something wrong.

I'm not sure that any reviewer has actually tested a full 100% complete production model of this phone and even when it's available from next week it still won't have the final production release of the Firmware, so with that in mind it might be a good idea for us and reviewers alike to wait until they actually have an official fully released handset in their possession before making any judgement calls on anything - all we can comment on is what we have seen so far and based on that alone I pre-ordered a Z1 - my recent history XZ and XZU

So far I can't think of one single thing I'm not liking about the Z1 - for me Sony have really upped their game and left the competition scratching their heads about how they can possibly compete, yes the G2 has reportedly got a good screen and good hardware and a reasonable camera (not better) but I can name a lot of things it doesn't have

Anyway lets wait a couple of weeks and see some official reviews of production devices and see were we're at

and 15 hours of video playback is complete hogwash - I say that with great confidence

are you serious, the Z1 makes the S4 look like a 12 month old device never mind 2 month, nothing will come close to the Z1 until 2014 and even then it will likely be another Sony - there is no other device on the market that matches the Z1 in every respect - yes some have the S800 and 330 hardware but as a whole package it in unequalled

Tell me I'm wrong and why

I agree at the moment it looks good.
But their should be a refresh of the GS4 sooner or later.
The built quality will be Sony advantage IMO.

Sony main issue will be the iphone 5S at docomo, really a bad news for their number 1 market.
There is a serious issue that could end up like a scenario similar to panasonic and NEC.
I see a lot of japanese forums and the amount of people saying will go for iphone is 10 to 1.

And do not underestimate Fujitsu and Sharp new models.
As they will benefit from the Docomo discounts, it could be serious competition for the Z1 in Japan, on the remaining market share the iphone will not take at docomo.

It will not be an easy launch.

Since China is shipping tomorrow, anyone have an idea what's the status for the Z1 in Hong Kong?

@mcKinley - i didn't quite understand what you said. are you saying your slowed down speed is 4mbitish after going over the high speed "cap"?

Ok I will break it down in this way

Regular speed 4Mbit in 3G+ mode
slowed speed 0.3Mbit with ancient 2G

That seriously depends on the market you're in and if your phone supports PCS or not. Other factors that also comes in play such as peak hours and so forth.

@Moogoo You can't really rely on what people tell you in terms of speed if they're not in your market. I mention before, I get an average of 15/10Mbps during peak hours and upward of 20/15Mbps during non peak hours. The speed I mention before are for LTE, for HSPA+, just subtract about 3Mbps off those numbers. Since I have no experience with non unlimited plan, can't really tell you what the speed is after being throttled. Though the good thing about T-Mobile's unlimited plan is, it's truly unlimited! I have the unlimited plan and I don't get throttle at all even after using an upward of 40+ GB. This really boils down to, you have to try it out to see if you like it or not.

So you're telling me the Japanese got the Z we dreamt for (Infra red and no screen lottery) whilst dreaming about the next iPHONE???

@MNX1024

You don't get throttled after 40gb? One day they'll assassinate you instead...

On topic - let's just hope there's no screen lottery, and if there is, then every reviewer out there gets the good one, and also every good person in the world.

weird thing is that there has been a shift the last 12 months or so people moving away iphone to Android, the Japanese will soon realise that going down the Apple route with it's brand specific closed environment will be too much to handle, I don't believe for one minute that Japan is going to desert the home brands for some American pipe dream, it would be like selling a Honda and buying a Harley - not going to happen

Android has something like 80% share of the global market and is growing by the week

There is no cust cutting and nor is there any viewing angle problem. Don't let some bad protos fool you people. For Z1 Sony was considering multiple panels including the same panel from Z/ZL. Which is why there is a lot of variation as all those protos must have made it to IFA show floor.

According to what I hear, Sony has chosen a VA panel which actually costs MORE than the Z Ultra panel. So there you go, Sony hasn't cut costs even for the display.

I have tested the unit 2 days ago at Sony Style Store Shanghai, in all 3 colors.
And again, have not seen any angle problem OR screen problem.

Please guys, dont just judge from videos or photos from the internet. You have to see it with your own eyes, in order to judge. I have not seen any problems like you saw on those so called "angle tests" videos and photos. And its not even the RETAIL version. You should go to sony store first and check it yourself guys, believe ur your own eyes and your own judgement, instead of videos around the internet, which have hundreds of factors influencing the real thing like light, noise, bla bla bla, you have to keep all these in mind.
