Yeah I was just about to ask about a tablet, it seems Sony is no longer interested in tablets.
Sadly there's no other major player in tablets other than Samsung. Even Google doesn't have a good offering now -yet, waiting for Google IO-.

I'm also very satisfied with my Z3 Tablet Compact. It's very sad to think no more tablets are coming from Sony, but also kinda understandable, if you see Sony's mobile strategy (streamlining Xperia range).

With tablet sales in decline it make sense for Sony to stay out of that market for while. If Apple are seeing a decline in iPad sales then what chance to the others have of making an impact. I also think people don't change their tablet as much a they change their phone too which again will cause a slump a sales. I think Sony will return to this market once the mobile division is more stable and pulls in even more of a profit and thankfully it's heading in that direction.

New rumor about SD845
http://wccftech.com/snapdragon-845-kirin-970-specs-leak/
http://wccftech.com/snapdragon-845-kirin-970-specs-leak/
Although I wonder how credible the rumor is because they mention a new 'A75' core for Q1 2018 which ARM didn't even mention once and using the 'old' samsuck 10nm lpe processor instead of new 10nm lpp despite samsuck annouced that their new 10nm lpp will be production ready for q4 2017.
I just wish Sony would just ditch Qualcomm and go all out with mediatek. Now that with android O there is no need to depend on SoC vendor for driver, Sony should make contract with mediatek to make a 7nm SoC for Sony.
Here is my dream SoC for Sony -
CPU -2 power cpu core (A73 or the successor), 4 efficient core ( A53 or the successor), 2 ultra efficient core ( A35)
GPU- Imagination PowerVR Series 8XT GT8525 or new architecture from ARM powerful enough for full time 4K resolution display.
Powerful but efficient that should be the mantra here. Overall the power consumption of the soc should be within 3-3.5 w. Mediatek always put weak gpu in their soc, hopefully mediatek will change that with 7nm soc. All the vendor are depending on QC is not good for the market. Just look at the monopoly samsung have with SD835. We need competition in the mobile soc segment.

Read from news that Sony is going to open their own mobile processor factory in Thailand, I was hoping they use their own best kick-ass processor soon, combined with their optimized software. (Invincible)

Sony Mobile will launch a new smartphone factory in Thailand, which will be the first Sony plant dedicated to its mobile business in 20 years. The factory will consists of a start-to-finish production system that will cover all steps through o assembly. Production at the plant is expected to begin in fiscal 2016 with Sony producing several million units of Xperia smartphones per year.
Initial investment is expected to be in the region of several billion yen according to a report from Nikkei, with a production line to be added to an existing site in Pathum Thani Province that was suspended since the 2011 floods in the region.
The previous plant built 20 years ago was in partnership with three local partners, having full ownership of the Thailand plant will lead to speedier decision making. The news sends a strong message that Sony is committed to the mobile space and that it has no plans to give up just yet.

Hmm that article is from 2015 though.. kinda think there would be more news/awareness about something like that if things had really progressed in that direction.
I have a question though.. what is the general feeling here about the likelihood of an XZ/XZ1 Compact turning up at IFA this year? 75%? 50/50? 95%?
I have just ordered a replacement battery for my Z1C but work owes me a new phone and I'm tempted to just grab the XZ Premium while the pre-order gives that lovely bonus. However if I could be reasonably hopeful that an XZ[1]C would show up I would definitely rather hang on until then.....
XR4/XR5? Can I make a poll inside posts? hah

@Jumbox
I heard there will be a new compact on IFA but I can't say for sure. The source is trust worthy but said ( a while ago) that the info is not certain yet. so I would say the chance of a new compact is very high.but one thing is certain,XZP will trump it in every aspect so if the size isn't a problem go for XZP.
