I hate doing this but it has to be done. First thing tomorrow morning I'm writing an email to Vodacom customer care about their crappy reception...dunno whether it's only N70 specific but at least three times a day I would miss calls even though the signal bar on my phone is at full strength...the phone would be on either 3G or GSM and I'd lose calls. This evening my brother was standing next to me, calling my phone and my phone still went to voicemail even though everything looked normal.
Kryptik & mario2002 since you guys own a Nokia 3G phones, have you experienced anything like this with MTN?Or is this issue specific to Vodacom?

@Brix, i've not had the dubious pleasure of experiencing the phenomenon which you've mentioned, boet... Could it possibly be the switching between 3G and GSM which is causing the problem? I've heard of an app called Network Monitor which allows one to lock a 3G phone to the 3G network, although i wouldn't use it, since it involves delving into and altering system files, etc...

Mr Brix I did tell you that Nokia has a BIG problem with all N70 around the country, especially Vodacom, their networks have been updated and the N70 doesnt cope very well with the new network, most of the new N series phones needed software and hardware upgrades...

Its Nokias fault, and you not the only person, just go to a vodashop and explain whats wrong, you need V5 software I think!

Mtn has similar problems.

@ brix, ever mind that, Vodacom has been very crap lately. My reception is full most times, but even in 3G areas, 3G icon showing internet is such a mission to download...very frustrating when you are at a specific time looking for something specific. It was better a month ago...why should it be any different.

Oh, don't forget to post on http://www.hellopeter.com/ also...Vodacom sometimes responds...

@ Brix, ages late, but rather late than never, Intel Pentuim or AMD Athlon, the big question: in my uneducated(but more so than others)opinion, AMD tends to be more towards gamers, and Intel Pentuim a bit more all round. So depending what you do.

I opt for Intel Pentuim because I use my pc to (in no particular order) make music, both digital and recording real stuff, play games, listen to music, do graphics, web design, surf the net, manage my phone/pictures, edit videos, blow up nuclear reactors, write, watch movies, convert movies for use on my phone, pull a rabbit out of a hat, and more.

Thanks for the responses guys.

@da krypsta: I'm not messing with anything like NetMonitor...just because I don't want to void my warranty by installling something on the A-drive.

@786KBR: I've got V 2.0539.1.2 /19-10-05/RM-84 I know I need a software upgrade but the question I've got is will the new firmware solve this problem by giving me the option to only go on 3G instead of both networks? If my problems persists after this upgrade I might as well get another phone.

@francios: Guess what, as I'm writing this post I've been hanging onto the Vodacome Customer Care line for more than 30 minutes. I sent the email off this morning.

Here's another problem...Vodacom was supposed to have debited my account today but instead they've decided to do it at the end of the month even though I gave them express instructions that the money should come off at on the 25/26th. What has subsequently happened is that I've exceeded my call balance which means that I can't make any outgoing calls...panicking, I call Vodashop- where I took out my contract- instead I get an attitude of "There's nothing we can do, Vodacom should sort out the problem".
So I call 082 111 from my office line and I've been hanging on ever since, 40 minutes and counting.

Could someone please speak in defense of Vodacom?

@786KBR: Tried calling that number but still I made to wait for what seems like an eternity. I'll just pop over to the Vodashop tommorow and ask them to sort it out because it's really frustrating not being able to make calls.

@ 786KBR, thanks for the little info. I have a (rare) SE w900i, (Vodacom support still lacking even though I mailed them months ago:
Me:
Hi.I recently got a SonyEriccson W900i. I want to register it on Vodacom4me, but you guys do not appear to have it on the list.Just thought I''d mention it (nice enough mail)
Them:
Dear Francoislr, Thank you for your e-mail. Please be advised our Web administrators are working on updating the website. It is with the co-operation of valued clients such as yourself that we are able to identify any possible improvement areas within our organization. Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at customercare@vodacom.co.za. Warm Regards (no names i will mention))
(almost 2 months later, no change. do you have to be rudebefore you get reaction?)

Now I suppose the thing is locked on the network, or to vodafone, and all that. I say this as I see my VLIVE! settings is un-editable and also undeletable. What process can I go to to get this off? Also, I want a firmware upgrade. Without the Vodacom factor, as they take days, where as overseas you walk in, 20-30 mins later you have updated firmware. What is your suggestions?

@ brix, anything in Vodacom's defence? Only one thing can be said in their defence, although share owners, they are not Telkom. And that is as good as it can get...

@ Virgin Mobile, get your man to pump some hot air into this baloon called the South African market...give the other 3 a reason to give us service....

Must say the consultants on Vodacom when you get them are such nice people...too bad the company they work for suck...
