can someone post a link or better yet, post a procedure on what to do start from scratch? what cable am i going to use to update it? is it the same cable that came with it when i bought it brand new?
nice question malinda.. is there a way to change flip closed and flip open shortcuts?
and one thing more, i find the usb charging feature pretty handy. i have my charger connected always to the cradle with the usb cable.so if im going to sync, my p990 will be charged by both the charger and the usb.is that bad?

There is already a thread on how to do this. Have a look around the forum.

I have a question for those who have P990 equipted with 4GB memory stick.
When you click on memory stick tab in Video does it take about 4,5 sec to open the video folder? I have some music videos and 3 full movies, each taking around 400-500mb. Once i see all videos moving between them is kind of slow. Is that a normal thing? I can open a movie in a second or two, seeking is fast too. Only thing that bothers me is the speed in the video folder. Any clues?

yes i have with 4gb. i dun have movies, only few video clips, and space remaining is 1.3gb, its not slow at all. its all fine
i guess maybe try another mem card or the number of applications running. get swiss manager.
it helps killing the tasks on f/o nd f/c mode.

First of all, although I still have kern-exec erors caused by Opera and occasional restarts caused by WLAN, with every update my P990 got a little better and faster. At least for me, I've never had anything that went backwards with an update. My advise is to do the update.
My experience is that there are 3 critical areas that still urgently need updates:
1- Opera
2- WLAN
3- Camera auto-focus software.
I can understand why some people really get pissed at SE about the state of P990, at times I am too. However, I have accepted that hardwarewise the P990 is an excellent device, we just have to get SE to provide a comparable firmware to go with it.

I figured it out already:) If you have lot of movies it is recommended to move them into folders and then it works like a charm. If they are all together in 1 folder phone becomes slow..

..and the ram issue. these past days, my p990 wont even finish one whole song! it will kill the media player after around 3minutes of playing. would it be possible to design a software that will define some mb of the internal memory to be "borrowed" and used as ram?hehehe.

@ adolfo
This might be because you are using Swiss Manager Pro with "Cleanup when idle" ticked. I found that this will kill the media player after a few minutes, presumably because it doesn't realise it is in use. The way around this is to highlight Media Player in the list of active tasks and then tap on the "i" icon on the bottom left. Un-tick "Include in end all" and Media Player will have a "#" symbol next to it on the task list. This means that Media Player will not be killed by SMP.
This tip may also apply to other applications you have running (like RSS?). It's sometimes too easy to blame the P990 when it's actually the fault of other applications you have installed. I know because I did!!

Ditto... I would also strongly suggest a format and master reset before the firmware update. I restore only the unified inbox from the PCSuite backup (mainly because third party application backup/restore doesn't work), restore contacts and calendar from memory stick and use Outlook for Notes. This pretty much ensures that corrupted data does not creep back to my P990. Almost everyone who has followed these steps have confirmed much less problems with their P990s.
