Everyone is entitled and should have an opinion.

I agree with the panels comment, hence why I don't use them anymore, functionality is more important to me than concept. I'm sure they will improve with time though .

Since you are keeping your phone you can speed it up by a "little" bit of customisation or by using less-dated interfaces like:

- SPB Shell - available from SE fun download site
OR
- TouchFlo 3D - also faster than the default panels (it's the only one I use now)
- XperiaTweaks = improve memory cache, etc.
- Plenty of free downloadable programs to use with WinMob

yeah I agree, but these things are not by default. And still it is not as good as the android or the iPhone interface, in terms of speed and functionality. you cannot drag and drop shortcuts (just like the android) and the web browser while good doesn't have the smooth sliding of the one on the iPhone, of course the phone does win over the iPhone in so many other things but I am just saying whats bad about it.
By the way, the touch flo 3d interface was unbearably slow when I installed it and so many things didn't work in it, I had to uninstall it to return the phone as fast as I want it to be.
currently I am using the spb shell and removed almost all the panels from the phone.

I posted a mini-review on TouchFlo, if you search my previous post you'll see.

Yes it does take a while to install, and yes there are a few issues. Speed was not one of them. I won't re-explain how & why it will speed after use again. Rather if you're interested read my mini-review.

As for the isues, a new version is available (13/11/08).

I've started a new thread and will update my review of it there.

i got the spanking kid today.
my 2 cents:

pros:
very good mobile phone
business centric
panels are cool and handy, but once you get used to one, you don't keep on changing
very good build quality
surprisingly stable software
an all rounder mode, with multimedia prowess and on the go business solution

cons:
keypad not that friendly (top keyboard buttons - space button)
joypad not that user friendly
on speaker found on the bottm left side (low volume)

final verdict:
very cool and handy
get one once the price plunges

1) Maybe my xperia is different from some others... because to me this phone is not slow at all...

2) the longest time I've to wait to load a panel is 4 second this is the complex panel. Most of the time I use google panel, spb panel, today panel and sony ericsson panel. Google and today panel take 2 second to load completely. SPB and sony ericsson panel (with 2 sebsite feeds, task, calendar, clock and whether) take 4 seconds to load completely.... I think it is fast.

3) to switch from portrait to landscape for each panel takes 2 seconds the most and for less complex panel it takes only 1 second.

4) I don't have problem with the loud speaker. and for information, I don't use maximum volume setting.

5) I 've installed TF3D panel and its really nice and fast. scrolling from one section to another is instantly. the only waiting time is for the panel to load. It takes some time to load.

@alexho, I got one from the first batch from cpw and its still running percectly, no loose covers, no crashes. in my experience WM crshes are usually attributable to software that has been installed

@Indrawan, it sounds like you have fallen into the usual trap that a cab is in fact a zip and is often recognised on pc as a zip.

if you simply copy the file to your X1 and then find in it file explorer on the X1 and click it, it will install fine.

sometimes (I'm not sure of the exact circumstances) if you know its definitely a cab then you need to rename it from zip to cab before copying
