It's interesting that the more phones Apple sell the more negative the Apple haters become. Is it not enough to love whatever phone you have, HTC, Blackberry, Nokia or SE? You have to trashtalk other companies' phones? Maybe you love your phones too much? Oops! I forgot the number one symptom in fanboyism...

The Newsweek article is written by Daniel Lyons, a k a Fake Steve Jobs. He seemed to like Apple until he switched to an Android phone. Now he has joined the Apple haters.

Sure,
again,
you have a point, but to ruin a metaphor: it cuts both ways. And by whatever author, that article contains some truth/s. On the other hand, yep, much of that. can be said about other manufacturers also.
E.g., I quite enjoyed the htc tattoo (in an X10 Mini kinda way) and I 'love' my HD2, but I consider the Desire the most laughably overhyped device of the year. I'm not a fanboi or hater (I paid money for the 3G and 3G S)... Undeniably though, Apple created most of the hype they so bathe in we all get soaked by their splish-splash...and that metaphorically twisted water cuts both ways too.

If people cannot take a bit of counter-jesting, I can only paraphrase the man himself: lighten up, it's only a phone maker And hey, if Jobs can compare Foxconn's workcamp to a club med holiday resort, he surely understands cynicism?

And if ANY other maker would release a gorgeously designed piece of glass and metal to then tell folks, go and wrap it in some cheap-as* plastic if it causes probs coz we're not bloody perfect... c'mon, would we have this 'chat'?
Rotten. Core.

David Pogue at New York Times put it well in his iPhone 4 review:
The iPhone 4 is already a hit. AT&T says that it received 10 times as many preorders as it did for the iPhone 3GS last year. On the first day of taking orders, Apple processed 600,000 requests — before its ordering system, and AT&T’s, descended into chaos.

In short, the public seems to be perfectly capable of sniffing out a winner without the help of tech critics.

On the other hand, the new model won’t do anything for people who detest the iPhone. It wouldn’t matter if the new iPhone could levitate, cure hepatitis and clean your gutters; the Cantankerous Committee would still avoid it.

And Hitler made the Volkswagen a hit.
Just saying
I ACTUALLY believe the issue to be overblown. N97 was, e.g., a much bigger rip-off. But one cannot just brush off people's grievances. Even if they're grief for grief's sake. Find the root, don't put crutches under the flowers

LOL, my friend... And then you go on to quote Mr Objective, Mr David Pogue?
He started the Missing Manual Series(topseller: the iPhone series!) Mr Pogue? The Mac for Dummies Mr Pogue?

Well, if we're at this level now, I will extract myself
Bye bye..

I really like the new iPhone4, wasn't a big fan of 3G and 3GS, I do think it's a pity that it has signal issues though, i don't see the point of quoting preoder numbers as people didn't know about the issues at that point, after all wasn't it a lot of the early adapters who pointed the issues out?
Other than that it's a great looking phone with one sweet display, so im sure many are prepared to live with the issues long as they don't touch that area, although if this was another manufacturer i can guarantee we would've had a flame war going on.

My point was not the preorder numbers but the highlighted part about iPhone haters still hating the iPhone even if it could perform miracles. It's not for nothing it is called the Jesus Phone...

I get so sad when Bonovox and Jkovacz say all these bad things about my beloved phone. (*wiping tears*)

Guys, a quick question about SMS/Text Messaging - when entering the contact to send to can you not turn it to predictive contacts? ie you begin entering the name and choose from the list?

Right now you have to click the + sign, scroll to the contact you want and click. That is very loooooong!

In email it's predictive contacts. And I'm sure it was the same on the firmware 3.

I'm on the verge of trading in for the Desire

True..if it was , there will be a lot if cursing and swearing in here. But since it's Apple Iphone, all of a sudden "it's okay"(?)

Iphone4 unmasked Apple

I just tried myself. Creating a new SMS and then start typing a name I know are in my contact list will give my a list of matching entries. (My phone is a 32GB 3GS at iOS 4.0.1 but I wouldn't expect this to be a hardware-specific feature.)

Thanks Abu. Very strange indeed. You don't think it could be Provider specific, do you? I'm with Tesco!
