That's what I call excellent product support! Even the good old Galaxy S still gets OS updates, not to mention Galaxy S2's JB! The other brands have to learn a lot from Samsung. I wish my Xperia Pro could get the same quality support... Sony, are you sleeping?

For Gmail ?
Either turn off Synch in the drop down nightshade, or go to the Gmail app, press menu / settings / choose account and then scroll down to where it says Ringtone & vibrate.
You can turn it off in there. The email alerts are in the email apps themselves afaik rather than in the phones settings.

Not Gmail for Hotmail. But will try the hotmail apps settings as you suggested and see what happens?
