There's a workaround for widening the DR and avoiding highlight clipping.

I use to decrease contrast to -1 and decreasing also the EV a bit. It helps a lot. Try it yourself.

I will give it a go.. the problem with that is that you might end with a darker image... but yes, sounds like a good alternative. Thanks for the info!

^ the 808 would do that to most phones... the only exception being the HTC One (because its using Nokia technology) and some of the Lumias, but they all record in mono at a lower bitrate .. 100 kbps vs. 256kbps

In fact, you can go crazy with the 808 and this app:

lossless codecs with up to 2000+ kbps .. proper sound recording. http://store.ovi.com/content/357740

Totally agree! I get my email, send text, take photos and as of a few weeks ago can now upload to directly to skydrive. No need nor desire for a "mainstream" OS

Same here..

For skydrive uploads you could use this slightly older version, which has auto upload.. it works great!

Yes, that's it..

Of course, now they are trying to take away features from it.. but, ironically, its in fact better than the one they have for WP since it let's you upload originals (even the 38Mpix files) straight to SkyDrive over both, wifi and 3G.

If you are using AT&T and you have the unlimited plan.. its perfect. I have the skydrive app on my PC, so I don't even connect the phone to it to transfer pics anymore...

Really enjoying that black cover on the white phone..

So on the red and the white version the hump is painted black, and on the black phone, the hump is kind of grey.. So that makes it stand out.

I am kind of picky in terms of aesthetics, so to get the 808 in the first place was a bit of stretch.. and despite the fact that I liked the contrast on the white one, I always thought that I would like it better if the hump was a bit more visibly hidden, and I was right.

The black cover kind of blends it in with the rest of the phone in more.. subtle way.. its only a visual illusion, but it does work.

I recommend it to white 808 owners.
