Considering 5iii is here, this thread has no use anymore.

If 5ii is part of the spring/summer Collection in Japan then that is the case But if not, I believe there is a possibility of a new Xperia in Japan for their winter collection

I am happy for Xperia to finally stepping up their game with this BUT
I am afraid Xperia will now be for the elites if there will be this Xperia 1 iii Premium.

But 1iii is already the Premium.
With the Pro released just this year, no way they bring another 4K phone that is above 1iii in hierarchy.
Maybe a huge (maybe 6,9" or 7" ) midrange with SD7xx?
Ace 2?
As long they do not waste money making something like Z Fold.
Would not mind a phone like Z Flip, but Fold is too stupid.

That interpretation by androidnext is a joke. The "new U" means new CPU. Zack means releasing a model in the end of the year would be affected by a new CPU. It could be either a refined CPU of the same generation or one of the next generation in the next year

Well, he said 1III and 5III are the only two flagships this year

LG is Dead - Is Xperia Next?

Based on my little research, I don't think Xperia will go global again anytime soon.
These are my findings for the losses Xperia has given Sony for the last 6 years, in comparison to LG mobile.
In the last 6 years: Xperia has lost: ~ $1.422B vs $4.5B (from Lg)
2020: + $388M
2019: - $195M
2018 - $900M
2017: - ~$260M
2016: + $95M
2015: -$570M
On the bright-side here are the 2020 operating income, which is looking better, which makes me really think that Xperia won't be getting global again any time soon because their current strategy is making them profit.
Xperia 2020
Q1: + $100M
Q2: + $88M
Q3: + $200M
Additional here are the other Xperia OI:
2014: - $2B
(3.8% of the global smartphone market)
2013: + $120M
2012: - $900M
(
--> Sony)
2011: +$170M
2010: +$39M
2009: - $320M
2008: - $107.31
2007: + $1.6B
