On a different aspect of the p990's performance entirely, I was one of those unhappy few who experienced seemingly random crashes of the silent type, ie. when the phone appears to be working and has actually stopped being a phone.
Two things have improved this dramatically!!
1: I moved out of London to somewhere far more rural - my uptime doubled from 12 to 24hrs.
2: I then upgraded my firmware from R6D23 to R6E28 - the phone hasn't crashed yet, uptime currently 2d 14h 8m!!!!!

@mode, I confirm your discovery
Today I took a couple of landscape pictures in daylight using macro mode and the focus was very good indeed. If I could only make some sense out of SE's logic...

Yep, and not only does the probability of clear, sharp pictures increases, autofocus is also faster and easier to get right the first time around. My theory is, since macro mode deals with precision, it probably has been programmed with more accuracy and better methods of capturing clear, closeup pictures. I'm thinking since there's only one lense (unlike professional cameras where you change lenses) to work with for both modes, obviously macro mode would be the clear winner. Dunno how true this is, just trying to make sense of it

Hi guys, just need your honest opinion on this, i was about to buy the p9 this weekend, but the bugs encountered by users is holding me back...
is it a good buy for me? i used to own nokia symbian phones, and am now using a simple phone like the 6233, i miss tinkering and adding features on my phone and since the p9's price has gone down, i'm thinking of getting one, and since it will be my first time to use a p9 series phone, i'm thinking it will be a whole new experience... but i dont want my experience to be a nightmare with the bugs, hehe, so what do you guys think, should i go ahead and buy it? thanks in advance for your advice

@creepy_maver
I'm using 50% backlight for saving battery's energy and it is still OK. Try it.
@spitfire14
If you have the money take the new P1. If you don't, then take an unbranded P990 and upadate the firmware. With the last one it is a very good choise eventhough it has some small problems. I think it is worthing its money.
