not sure it was working with P800 ! i had P800 and P900, not sure it has ever functionned.
with Clie yes, and other phones also.
The problem is that the alarm is somewhere, and because when the phone is off, nothing is loaded, SE can't make it ring.
The solution (maybe what nokia made), is to use the same function that in BIOS in our PC, to make the peripherals to wake up, then, to ring...
Not sure in the next SE phone it will work also...

Afaik, Symbian OS does not offer association of file extensions with applications, hence you have to start/open these apps/files from the app which supports them.
It's the main design goal to do this. But there are recognizers that developers can implement to enable a certain mime type (file type) to be associated to an application. So it is possible, if a developer implements it.

If the phone could be invoked to turn on automatically when the alarm goes off (like other non-symbian .S.E phones), it would ring over a minute after the actual time, given the p990's generous boot time lol

I am using divx player too and the question was, if avi files can be played by selecting the files in the 'file manager' so that smartmovie (or divx player) is being launched automatically (just like in Windows) and the answer is 'no'.
And that's why the icons of those files are question marks (=unknown file type).

Bought the bastard the other day and however little I've used it, I've been satisfied. One thing though, I have Windows 2003 Server installed which is incompatible with the PC Suite so I can't get the drivers for the USB cable to work. If someone would share them with me or indeed share a way 'round it, I'll be very grateful.
