But there are recognizers that developers can implement to enable a certain mime type (file type) to be associated to an application. So it is possible, if a developer implements it.
Right, but as you said, recognizers & UID's are things only developers can deal with..
So there is no solution for the user to manage file associations..

Unfortunately not; all Sony Ericsson phones use descendants/relatives of the Memory Stick flash media. The P990i uses Memory Stick Duo, while the P1i uses the Memory Stick M2. SD and MicroSD form factors are different.

Haha, you're welcome! At any rate, I'm sure we'll see increased capacity Duos and M2s some time soon.
My only question is how much they will cost... solid state drives for notebook computers already cost more than some/most mobile phones... So how much more would a flash card of comparable capacity be?
But then again, storage is always getting cheaper as time progresses.

how do I update the phone with the flip removed?
I have to hold the 'C' button but where's that when the flip is gone?
Is there a shortcut when the flip is removed to mute the phone and to mute the phone when a call is incoming?
grtz

With the flip removed, I've always used the letter C on the thumb board when the update program tells me to hold down 'C'
I think that I've read elsewhere that there are other buttons that work too, but I don't remember which. At any rate, the letter C should work.
With the flip removed, I usually have to tap the small arrow in the bottom left corner, then select volume from the menu, and then mute the phone. I'm not sure if there's a faster way... not sure how to mute an incoming call though... I might just tap the reject call button. It seems that the P990i is lacking a little bit in buttons with the flip removed?
