Guys, potential P990i buyer. Some questions:

1. How prone is the touchscreen to breakdown? From another forum, some users have reported that their touchscreen just stopped working

2. How can we tell if the unit is branded, unbranded or world generic? Are there any markings in the box or do we have to power on the unit? What are the advatages and disadvantages of an unbranded phone to a branded one?

1)I wouldn't worry about the touchscreen, I've had 2 P990's now, my 1st one got submerged in water for well over a minute, managed to salvage it and eventhough the touchscreen was the biggest of my concerns, it was not affected at all and worked flawlessly to this day (only the camera didn't survive the dip though). I also have a 2 year old daughter who loves to play with my phone and she would tap the screen as hard as she could with anything pointy that she lays her hands on which gave me my occasional dose of mini heart attacks listening to the agonizing thuds she'd inflict on it. No problem, and I've never ever had to re-callibrate the touchscreen on both the phones
2)There's no indication of the CDA on the box so you definitely have to power it up to find out. Unbranded/World Generic ones are more stable because the branded ones incorporate their own softwares which would usually screw the phone up. World generic gets firmware updates faster and is generally the most up to date. In fact, some CDA's from certain countries have yet to receive the latest (and final) update.

Thanks. So what should I look for, if I want to check if the unit is world generic or branded? How do I check it?

1) Turn the phone on
2) Wait until the stanby screen appears
3) Select 'more'
4) Select 'status'
5) You'll see a list of things ie, phone model, available RAM, battery level etc, the CDA is at the bottom most
6) If your CDA ends with /1 or /2 then it's world generic

Hope this helps

Guys, quick question again

I'm about to buy the P990i this week so I downloaded the PC Suite and SE Update Service (SEUS) so I can get familiar with it. When I started SEUS and chose the P990i, it had these instructions

1. Phone must be fully charged.
2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port.
3. Turn off the phone.
4. Remove and reinsert the phone battery.
5. Press and hold the C button while plugging in the USB cable to the phone.
6. Continue holding the C buttom.

Seems overly complicated. Can't I just insert the USB cable to the fully charged phone (on or off?) then connect the USB cable to the USB port?

No, because this is the only way to connect a SE handset in 'flash mode'.

Then, it isn't actually complicated.
It just seems to be, since (I guess) you've never done it before.

And of course you won't have to keep the c button pressed during the entire flashing process.
Just for a few seconds until SEUS tells you to release it...

Just got a new P990i. Guys, is it possible to uninstall Quickoffice? Wat to get Document To Go for UIQ3. Or can I make Documents to Go the default viewer for Word/Text, Sheet and Slideshows?

It's better Documents to Go than Quickoffice?

I wouldn't know if it is, but I would just like to point out that Quickoffice especially Quickword is pretty useless. Albeit a bit on the big side but it didn't open the text file that I wanted to show my Professor.

im thinking about getting one of these for £20 with 600 minutes, 500 texts, and a free 19inch HDtv. Is it worthwhile?

Ive got a k800i, so i would probably use that at weekends and use the p990i during the week, the today screen is quite appealing to me.
