@Glenny, that's an old puzzle that involves some mathematical magic, sort of... I think it was already asked here before.
The idea there is that the three guys paid the restaurant $10 each (total $30) and was given a discount of $5. They took $1 each and gave the $2 to the waitress. To summarize, they only paid $9 each because they got $1 back, while $2 went to the waitress, so total cash out was: $9 x 3 = $27, add the $2 they gave to the waitress = $29. So where did the $1 go?
The calculations may sound logical at first but they are actually flawed. The total cash out was actually just $27. because the $3 went back to them. The adding of the $2 from the waitress' tip was already redundant because it is already part of the $27 that they paid out. Proper accounting should be: $10 * 3 = $25 (paid to restaurant) + $2 (tip) + $3 ($1 each as change).

I was just trying to explain to @Glenny and @lumememm this puzzle. I wasn't posting it for everyone else to answer.

@black -
ok since anish is not around, i'll post a riddle, a tough one -
My first is when my whole is heard,
My second sounds the traveler's rest,
My whole's a bird, and yet my third
Would drown its song and drench its nest.
What am I?
And since i took the initiative to post a riddle, i get one point
