how good do u reckon the touch-screen interface in the p5 will be....i was jus looking at nokia's touch screen interface on gsmarena...and i have to admit it...even tho i m not a fan of the iphone (especially coz they like to lock the user to their own software..like itunes) ...iphone has the most revolutionary touchscreen interface i have seen compared to any other phone. i really hope the p5 can atleast match it!!!!

I agree. Even though apple and it's iphone have so many things wrong with it (e.g., locking their users in, no possibility for memory expansion, battery replacement, etc), they do have one thing on their side, and that is the touch interface. It is smooth, intuitive and fast.

I certainly hope Paris will match it with slick transitions, speed and design. Granted the slick transitions may not be necessary, but it ads to the market potential for the general consumer who most times care more about how a phone looks than how it functions.

I hope Paris doesn't disappoint. Either way, it will be my next phone as I won't dismiss it just because its interface isn't as "slick" as the iphone's. Of course I am hoping it exceeds the iphone and beats it at its own game.

Why on earth do you expect flashy effects and a finger-only interface in a business product? Sure, it's fine for four year-olds, but surely not businessmen.

No flashy effects? Are you kidding me? Why do you think the iPhone's so successful in the first place???
Come on, it won't be a "true P5 (or whatever)" without a slick UI and flashy effects. People like that.
Or would you prefer the type of "effects" shown in that Nokia touch UI demo video? *shivers*

Do I have to repeat myself? It's a business handset! Businessmen aren't young teenagers, you know.

Definitely. Business phone or no business phone. Slick UI and transition effects add to the wow factor. Sure it is not "needed" and even better if it can be turned off in preferences for those who don't want it. But it is a HUGE marketing tool.

People like flashy bells and whistles. They are the core of many marketing strategies. For paris not to have anything slick or flashy would be a mistake. But I don't think SE would make that mistake. Just by the design of paris alone with the mirror front and large touch screen, they are definitely taking a page from the slick design book and adding as much "wow" factor as possible.

If they weren't thinking this way, they'd design a simple brick. To me at least, it doesn't look that way.

EDIT: Sure, maybe old folks might not appreciate the slick UI and flashy effects, but more and more, business people are quite young and they do appreciate the slick UI and flash effects. To me at least, it is not the end all say all, i'm just saying it's a huge marketing point that they should take advantage of if they want to win at apple's game. There's no denying it, Apple is a marketing genius and SE needs to up its game.

No, you don't, I understood you perfectly... Oh well, guess I'm too late for that one.

Anyways, I have to say ditto to moogoo's post.

Let me ask you this then... Is a nice user interface needed? Nope. That's why it's not there.

All I hope for is an interface that:

- transitions smoothly
- reacts fast and accurately
- is intuitive
- customizable

It doesn't need to be like the iphone. It's not the iphone after all. Guess we'll wait and see.
