@Brix... Nice choice!

@786... Sorry bro, I was out yesterday (Bank Holiday in U.K.) But, Happy B-Lated Birthday!

Branding? Do most South African's know what that is? Of course you guys do, but when I was there no-one knew a thing about it

No offence to be taken

Speaking of branding taking up memory, on the k750 between 5 and 8 megs are used just for the vlive "tour".

Brix, I see your point with number portability, but does voda really want for example, a voda user using an mtn branded phone on their network (and vice versa)? No. I'd say not. So what you end up having is a cross-pollination of branded phones across networks. Mtn users using voda phones etc.

Makes for bad advertising.

About the bad advertising, i also thought bout it, but now, the way they think i guess, if a user use a voda branded phone with mtn the ppl around the user only sees the branding, hardly ever sees the screen

More cellphone pics and facts by Sir Wanqa of Hornchurch.

To the side of the ruins of Melrose Abbey in Melrose, in the Borders county of Scotland, lies the burial place of the legendary Robert the Bruce's heart.
(His body is buried in Dunfermline.)

It was Bruce's wish to go on a crusade against the Infidel, once Scotland was free, but he could not fulfil this pledge. Instead his heart was carried into battle in a leaden casket by James Douglas. Douglas died in battle hurling the casket into the heart of foe. It was later successfully returned to Scotland.

This number porting. How is it going to work?

Will I be using the voda SIM on MTN. Or I will get a new MTN but keep the old VODA number?

@ TeenInvader,
I'm sure number porting will be similar to how it's done in the UK. I've explained the procedure on this thread under my previous username, but
herewith an explanation by some wanqa in another thread:

Right, now pay attention, 007....
I have ported a total of nine simcards with different UK networks for friends and family.
Firstly, you have the right to request your Port Authorisation Code (PAC) number, whether PAYG or if your contract is up.
There is no charge for obtaining your PAC number, except for the phone call to your network. During office hours, Orange, Vodafone and Virgin have all been able to give me a PAC number over the phone there and then. You may have to wait a few minutes while they obtain the PAC number, sometimes from a different dept.

The first time I asked Orange, they said it would arrive in the post within 48 hours, which it did.
3 asked me to call the next day (24 hours) and the O2 was supposed to contact me, also within 48 hours. When they didn't, I phoned them again..they were most apologetic and then gave me the number immediately.

Your PAC number is made up of 3 letters and 6 numbers.
Once you have your PAC number, you will have a 30 day window to port your number. If you don't, the PAC number will expire and you will then stay on the network you were trying to leave. However, you may phone the network up again and request another new PAC number, which will again be valid for 30 days.

NB: If you are porting to a PAYG, you will need a new unregistered simcard (of your new network) pack handy as well as (obviously) your PAC number before phoning your new network.

Most networks take 5 to 10 working days, once they receive the PAC number from you, to activate the number on your new network.
Lastly, you may use the old sim on the old network right up until the day before the number is due to be ported over. They normally request you switch your phone off during the day of porting and switch it on again in the early evening...and all being well, it should be up and running.
This may seem obvious, but before there is tears, credit on your old simcard cannot be ported to your new simcard...only the number is ported, so make sure your contacts etc. have been saved onto your phone.

Phew! Hope this throws enough light on the subject...obviously, I can only speak from my own personal experiences.

Just a quick thing if any of you guys want to turn to a life of crime, and nail telkom for the bastards they are: any important sites that are hosted there, phone telkom, tell you want to transfer it and they must accept the transfer ticket, and then phone the isp you want to transfer it to..Telkom will just say "Yes Sir!" and do it, where they should have extensive security measures in place to make sure this is what their clients want. We just handled a transfer from them and they just agreed without authenticating that we are acting on behalf of the client...

Moral of the story, DO NOT deal with Telkom unless your business depended on it. They will screw you over.
